The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on Monday (Mar 7) launched a safety charter to uphold standards as the aviation industry recovers from the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Charter for a Strong and Positive Safety Culture in Singapore is the first of its kind for the aviation sector here. The launch took location at the annual Aviation Safety Forum at the Pan Pacific Hotel.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRecognising various safety-related challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the charter expresses the shared commitment by leaders in the sector to together uphold safety standards and strengthen safety culture in their respective organizations as air travel recovers,\u201d told CAAS in a statement released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

80 aviation organizations <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To date, 80 aviation organizations have signed the charter; more are expected to do so in the coming months, stated CAAS.

They include major airlines, training organizations, maintenance, repair, and overhaul firms, aircraft manufacturers, airport operators, ground handlers, industry associations, and unions.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The charter sets out to encourage voluntary reporting of security hazards, dangerous practices, and safety errors and includes self-disclosure of mistakes, slips, and lapses.

It also aims to encourage confidentiality and protection from punitive action for self-disclosure of safety lapses and errors, while \u201cnot tolerating conduct that constitutes gross negligence, wilful misconduct or criminal activity\u201d, told CAAS<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singapore aviation sector <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Han Kok Juan, director-general of CAAS<\/a>, told: \u201cAviation safety must be a non-negotiable and the top priority of the Singapore aviation sector as air travel recovers and we ramp up operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
