pilot union VC raises concerns over Ukraine flights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Pilots\u2019 unions have raised concerns over safety risks involved in flying over Ukraine amid <strong>heightened geopolitical tensions<\/strong> in the region.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>German pilots\u2019 union<strong> Vereinigung Cockpit (VC)<\/strong> said it recommends avoiding the area by a wide margin due to the current, highly dynamic political situation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>European aviation safety authorities haven\u2019t yet told airlines to <strong>avoid flying over Ukraine. <\/strong><\/li><li>However, some airlines are already avoiding the area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" aviation companies should always opt for the safest course of action,\u201d <\/em>German VC said in a statement on February 16, 2022.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse has-text-align-center\">Russia said on February 15, 2022, that it was partly pulling back troops from the Ukraine border.\n\n On February 16, 2022, the defense ministry published a video showing tanks and military vehicles leaving Crimea.\u00a0\u00a0<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>For many pilots, the situation is reminiscent of when Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down in summer 2014 over eastern Ukraine.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both the <strong>International  of Air Line Pilots\u2019 Associations (IFALPA)<\/strong> and the <strong>European Cockpit Association (ECA) <\/strong>have previously called on states to take action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>They highlight that there was a \u201c<strong>false sense of security\u201d i<\/strong>n 2014, when many airlines continued to overfly the area.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201c<em><strong>IFALPA and ECA<\/strong> are extremely concerned that the same false sense of security might arise again<\/em>,\u201d they said in a joint statement earlier on February 1, 2022, calling on states and operators to \u201c<em>carefully consider the lessons that should have been learned from <strong>MH17<\/strong>\u201d.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Ukraine_International_Airlines-_UR-PSR-_Boeing_737-8KV_-47585391922--1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"German pilots\u2019 union Vereinigung Cockpit \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The unions said states should <strong>close airspace or ban aircraft <\/strong>from flying over high-risk areas. <\/li><li>States can sometimes be loath to close their airspace for fear of losing money earned from overflights.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>In light of the tensions, Ukrainian carriers have had to move some aircraft to different countries at the request of lessors and due to insurance requirements.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Ukraine International Airlines<\/strong> said on February 15, 2022, it has sent a further two aircraft to Spain for safekeeping.<\/li><li> Its fleet has been reduced to 13 aircraft as a result. <\/li><li>However, it is still continuing to operate domestic and international flights.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201c<em>The airline managed to work out a compromise position in the process of negotiations with insurance companies and with the consent of lessors,\u201d<\/em> it said in a statement.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay tuned and Updated with
