pilot flight academy located at <strong>Phoenix Goodyear Airport (GYD),<\/strong> in Arizona, the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move sees United become the first major American carrier to own a flight school.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It is predicted that the North American region could face a shortage of around 12,000 commercial airline pilots by 2023. <\/li><li>However, speaking to\u00a0media\u00a0on January 28, 2022,\u00a0Scott\u00a0Kirby, United Airline\u2019s chief executive officer, claimed that opening the United Aviate Academy is expected to help the airline fill the shortage.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>In the longer-term, the American carrier plans to hire 10,000 commercial pilots over the next eight years, half of which are\u00a0expected to be\u00a0graduates of its new flight academy. \u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" instrument<\/strong> for the airline to ensure that the flight crew is trained to the exact qualification required by <a href=\"http:\/\/unitedairlines.com\">United Airlines.\u00a0<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>United also\u00a0expects to train 5,000 new pilots by 2030, with the goal of 50% of those students being women or people of color.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, before joining United Airlines as pilots of larger commercial airliners, students will be required to pass a year-long course to allow them to fly for regional airlines such as <em><strong>Mesa Airlines, Skywest, CommutAir and GoJet, which operate shorter flights for United.
