The airline needs a replacement for both the <strong>De Havilland Canada Dash 8 and the Boeing 737. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse has-text-align-center\">While the Airbus A220-300 or the <strong>Embraer E915-E2<\/strong> could replace the smaller aircraft, Luxair still needs something the size of the <strong>Airbus A320 or A321. <\/strong>\nThe A220-500 would be ideal, adds <strong>Feith<\/strong>. \nHowever, it may still be some time before we see this aircraft.  <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Plans for a stretched version of the A220 go back to the birth of the airliner, as <strong>Bombardier<\/strong>, which designed the aircraft as the C-Series, discussed the possibility of the aircraft as early as 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> After <a href=\"http:\/\/Airbus.in\">Airbus<\/a> took over the production of the C-Series, rebranding it the A220, the company hinted that the &#8211;<em><strong>500 variant<\/strong> could be a possible successor to the A320 family. <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"653\" height=\"316\" src=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/gilles-feith-luxair.jpg\" alt=\"Luxembourg\u2019s flag carrier Luxair had expressed an interest in Airbus A220-500,  much-anticipated addition to the A220 family.\" class=\"wp-image-16905\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/gilles-feith-luxair.jpg 653w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/gilles-feith-luxair-600x290.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/gilles-feith-luxair-300x145.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, Airbus CCO Christian Scherer said that it was \u201c<em>not a question of if, but when\u201d<\/em> a stretched A220 would succeed the A320. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>However, the company has not shared any plans regarding the production or launch of the aircraft. Meanwhile, numerous airlines have expressed interest in purchasing the stretched variant. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In October 2021, Air France-KLM revealed it was in preliminary discussions with.
