MUMBAI-<\/strong> Air Canada (AC) <\/a>will not restore its Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)<\/a> \u2013 Mumbai (BOM) service in 2027, ending its previous one-stop connection between Canada and India’s financial capital. The airline had operated the route through London Heathrow Airport (LHR)<\/a>, using its fifth-freedom traffic rights to carry passengers between the United Kingdom and India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision leaves Air Canada without a Mumbai service as it adjusts its international network and reallocates aircraft to other markets. Air India (AI)<\/a>, meanwhile, has introduced seasonal nonstop flights between Toronto and Mumbai for the 2026-27 winter season, providing passengers with a direct alternative to the discontinued Canadian service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada Drops Mumbai Route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada’s Toronto-Mumbai operation last flew in March 2026, according to aviation schedule data from Cirium. The airline had used Boeing 787-8<\/a> and 787-9 aircraft for the service, which operated through London rather than as a nonstop flight between Canada and India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The westbound journey began in Toronto, with passengers travelling to Heathrow before continuing to Mumbai. On the return journey, flights departed Mumbai for London<\/a> and then continued to Toronto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The London-Mumbai sector operated as a fifth-freedom service, allowing Air Canada to carry passengers between two countries outside its home market. This arrangement extended the airline’s Indian network through its established London operations, but the carrier has decided against restoring the connection next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cancellation forms part of broader changes to Air Canada’s international network. Operational challenges, including the longer routings required to avoid Russian airspace, have affected the economics of some long-haul services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Adds Direct Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air India has taken advantage of the capacity gap by launching a seasonal nonstop Mumbai-Toronto service on October 25, 2026. The flights operate three times weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and are scheduled to continue until March 26, 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline uses its Boeing 777-300ER<\/a> aircraft, featuring eight First Class suites, 40 Business Class seats and 280 Economy Class seats. The aircraft also offers upgraded cabin interiors and onboard Wi-Fi connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight AI193 departs Mumbai at 4:00 AM and arrives in Toronto at 10:00 AM local time. The return service, AI192, leaves Toronto at 12:30 PM and reaches Mumbai at 2:10 PM the following day, Simple Flying<\/a> flagged. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India’s launch of the route provides a direct alternative to Air Canada’s former one-stop operation through London. Importantly, the new Mumbai-Toronto service operates nonstop in both directions, rather than making a technical stop in Rome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada Retains Delhi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite withdrawing from Mumbai, Air Canada will continue serving the Indian market through its Delhi operations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline maintains year-round nonstop flights between Toronto and Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL)<\/a>, while Montr\u00e9al-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) also provides seasonal connectivity to Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Air Canada’s Indian network has become considerably smaller compared with its earlier expansion plans. The airline had previously operated multiple connections between Canada and India, including services through London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The withdrawal also comes as the carrier reviews the deployment of its Boeing 787 fleet across international markets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada has announced plans to resume or introduce services to destinations such as Tel Aviv and Dubai, although the timing of some Middle Eastern operations remains subject to regional security conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For passengers travelling between Toronto and Mumbai, Air India’s seasonal service now offers a direct option. Travellers will need to consider the seasonal operating period when planning journeys beyond March 2027, as the airline has not established the service as a year-round route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
