The airline had intended to restore the 517-seat superjumbo on the major Asian route from late March 2027, but its latest schedule update shows that the Airbus A350-900 will operate the flights instead.

The change represents another reduction in the international network of the Doha-based carrier’s double-decker aircraft. Although Qatar Airways continues to operate eight A380s, the latest schedule filing retains just one A380 flight to Singapore, scheduled for April 5, 2027. The airline initially operated the aircraft on selected dates before extending its deployment, with flight QR948 from Doha and QR947 from Singapore becoming the main services associated with the superjumbo.

However, the aircraft’s deployment changed several times during the year. Qatar Airways initially planned to restore the A380 in September before moving its return to late March 2027, aligning the deployment with the beginning of the northern summer schedule.

The latest filing indicates that the airline has now largely abandoned that plan. Instead of the 517-seat A380, Qatar Airways will use its 283-seat Airbus A350-900 on the route.

The A350-900 configuration includes 36 Business Class seats and 247 Economy Class seats. This represents a reduction of 234 seats compared with the airline’s three-class A380 configuration, which accommodates eight First Class, 48 Business Class and 461 Economy Class passengers.

The planned Doha–Singapore services include QR948, departing Doha at 3:05 AM and arriving in Singapore at 3:45 PM. The return QR947 service leaves Singapore at 7:40 PM and reaches Doha at 10:40 PM, based on the previously published schedule.

Photo: Nabil Molinari | Flickr

London Gains A380 Flights

While Singapore loses the planned superjumbo deployment, London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is expected to receive additional Qatar Airways A380 services.

The airline had previously scheduled one daily A380 flight to London, but its latest planning shows two daily services. This would increase the availability of the aircraft on one of Qatar Airways’ major European routes.

Elsewhere, the airline plans to operate up to 11 weekly A380 flights between Doha and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) will also remain an A380 destination, although the aircraft is not scheduled to operate there during April and May 2027.

Qatar Airways has also reduced its A380 network elsewhere. The airline has removed the aircraft from services to Perth International Airport (PER) and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD), while its previously planned return to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) was also cancelled.

The Guangzhou route will instead receive the Boeing 777-300ER, which accommodates up to 412 passengers in the relevant configuration, Simple Flying flagged.

Photo: By Anna Zvereva from Tallinn, Estonia – Qatar Airways, A7-APJ, Airbus A380-861, CC BY-SA 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=87491609

Singapore Retains A380 Flights

Despite Qatar Airways’ decision, Singapore Changi Airport will remain an important destination for Airbus A380 operators.

From November 2026, five airlines are scheduled to operate the aircraft at the airport: British Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qantas and Singapore Airlines.

Etihad Airways is scheduled to resume its Singapore A380 services on December 16, while British Airways recently returned the aircraft to the route.

Singapore Airlines will continue to account for a significant share of Changi’s superjumbo operations, deploying its A380s on several major international routes, including London, Frankfurt, Sydney, Auckland, Delhi and Mumbai.

The latest Qatar Airways schedule change therefore removes one operator from Singapore’s A380 lineup, but passengers will continue to have several opportunities to travel on the world’s largest passenger aircraft.

Stay tuned with us.
