HAGUE-<\/strong> Lelystad Airport (LEY), near Lelystad in the Netherlands, will expand by 240 hectares to accommodate Dutch F-35 fighter jets<\/a> and supporting military units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final plan allocates 200 hectares for military infrastructure and 40 hectares for a longer runway. The project will require 6 businesses and four agricultural homes to relocate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dutch Defence Plans Set Out 240 Hectare Airport Expansion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Dutch government has confirmed plans to expand Lelystad Airport to provide the additional space needed for F-35 fighter operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision forms part of the National Programme for Defence Space (NPRD), which aims to provide the infrastructure required to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities. The cabinet confirmed the final land requirement on October 16, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final requirement is larger than the previous provisional plan, which indicated an expansion of 150 hectares. Further assessments confirmed that the military facilities, aircraft, and supporting units would require a total of 240 hectares beyond the airport’s current grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
