The airline will offer its FirstFare dining service, with meals presented in a bento-inspired box.

On flights covering 899 miles or more, each FirstFare selection will include a main course, a side and a dessert. Menu options will include sweet or savoury crepes and sesame noodles with beef or tofu.

However, BlueFirst aircraft without Mint will not receive onboard ovens. As a result, the airline will serve cold meals rather than hot meals in the new cabin.

Passengers will also receive a rotating selection of snacks from brands such as Sockerbit, Tosi, Wholesome Bakery, Pop Daddy Snacks and Cape Cod Chips.

The beverage selection will include wines from New York-based Parcelle, specialty coffee from Cometeer and Joe Coffee, and premium teas from Smith Teamaker. JetBlue will also use premium glassware from Fable and artist-designed coasters created in collaboration with New York City illustrator Danielle Rose Fisher.

Another feature will be seatback food and drink ordering. The system will include a new Mixologist Mode, allowing passengers to customise cocktails by selecting a spirit, mixer and flavourings.

On overnight flights, BlueFirst passengers will receive a blanket and a snooze kit. Introductory fares start at $299.

JetBlue also expects to introduce BlueFirst on flights between New York LaGuardia and Fort Lauderdale, with fares starting at $249. That route was expected to follow within days of the initial announcement.

These prices represent starting fares rather than fixed ticket costs. The BlueFirst Base fare does not include seat selection and is subject to change fees, making it important for passengers to compare fare conditions before booking.

JetBlue plans to expand the cabin to more domestic routes as aircraft undergo interior modifications. Most aircraft without Mint are expected to receive BlueFirst during 2027, with the overall retrofit programme scheduled to finish around early 2028.

The airline plans to begin with its oldest Airbus A320 aircraft before moving on to newer aircraft. Seat pitch measures the distance between corresponding points on consecutive rows and affects the space available to passengers.

The change will bring JetBlue’s standard economy seat pitch closer to the industry norm described in the airline’s announcement. The airline has traditionally differentiated its economy product through features such as generous legroom, personal entertainment screens, and free Wi-Fi.

However, these features have not necessarily allowed the airline to charge a substantial premium for standard economy seating. BlueFirst gives JetBlue another product to sell to customers seeking additional comfort and priority services.

The cabin is particularly relevant to markets such as New York and Florida, where JetBlue has a strong presence and demand for premium domestic travel. It also gives passengers more opportunities to book premium seating on domestic portions of itineraries that include Mint-equipped long-haul flights.

The new cabin could also strengthen the TrueBlue loyalty programme by creating more upgrade opportunities for Mosaic members.

JetBlue nevertheless faces wider financial challenges. The supplied reporting puts the airline’s debt at almost US$9 billion and describes it as continuing to lose money. Geraghty has ruled out a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2026, while United executives have said they are not interested in a merger.

BlueFirst is part of JetBlue’s strategy to improve its revenue mix, although the cabin’s introduction alone does not establish whether the airline will achieve a sustained financial recovery.

Photo: JetBlue

JetBlue BlueFirst Rollout: What Passengers Should Know

JetBlue’s new first-class product will introduce a dedicated premium cabin across aircraft that do not feature Mint. The launch will begin with Boston to Fort Lauderdale on December 8, 2026, followed by further routes and aircraft retrofits.

The cabin will offer 2-2 seating, up to 37 inches of seat pitch, seatback entertainment, expanded food and beverage options, and priority airport services. Mosaic members will gain access to upgrade certificates and selected complimentary upgrades, subject to availability.

The main trade-off will affect economy passengers. JetBlue will reduce standard economy seat pitch from 32 inches to 30 inches to accommodate the new premium cabin without cutting overall aircraft seating capacity.

The airline expects most non-Mint aircraft to receive BlueFirst during 2027, with the retrofit programme targeted for completion by early 2028. Its long-term success will depend on whether demand for the new cabin generates sufficient additional revenue to justify the investment.

Stay tuned with us.
