ROME\u2014<\/strong> An Air Canada (AC)<\/a> captain marked the end of a 40-year aviation career with an emotional retirement flight from Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)<\/a> to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on September 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Captain Craig Anderson completed the milestone flight alongside his two sons, Matthew and Taylor, who are also Air Canada pilots and served as his first officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight brought together three generations of the Anderson family\u2019s aviation legacy. Anderson\u2019s wife, Brenda, worked as a flight attendant on the flight, while his third son, Curtis, a pilot with Porter Airlines (PD), travelled as a passenger and documented the family\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having his sons beside him made Anderson\u2019s final flight particularly significant after a career that began in 1987.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthew and Taylor had arranged their schedules well in advance so they could serve as co-pilots, creating the first opportunity for the entire family to work together on the same flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The occasion also connected Anderson to his late father, Gary, who spent 40 years as an Air Canada pilot<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anderson had previously served as second officer on his father\u2019s retirement flight from London to Toronto<\/a>, and he carried a photograph of Gary near the cockpit controls during his own final flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family\u2019s aviation connection extends further through their mother, Carole, who previously worked as a flight attendant for Trans-Canada Air Lines. She later married Gary, making aviation a defining part of the Anderson family across three generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Retirement Flight Tribute Creates Lasting Memories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Rome-Toronto flight included several personal moments, including a surprise appearance by Anderson\u2019s brother when he boarded in Malta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor also delivered a special announcement during the flight, recalling his father\u2019s four decades with Air Canada and the family\u2019s history in the cockpit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers responded with applause as Anderson walked through the cabin following the tribute. The captain described the announcement by his sons as an unforgettable moment at the end of his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friends and relatives were also waiting at Toronto Pearson with retirement signs when the flight arrived. Longtime family friend Kevin Ackroyd highlighted the unusual aviation connection shared by Gary, Craig and Craig\u2019s three sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30,000 Hours Flying Career Milestone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Anderson accumulated more than 30,000 flying hours during his career, which included operating long-haul aircraft and travelling extensively as an Air Canada pilot, CP24 <\/a>reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His son Matthew was trained by him on the Boeing 777<\/a>, while Taylor recalled helping with his father\u2019s preflight preparations when the brothers were children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The captain now plans to spend retirement playing golf, boating, and enjoying more time away from the cockpit. Meanwhile, Matthew, Taylor and Curtis will continue the family\u2019s aviation journey, carrying forward a legacy that began with their grandfather and continued through their father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
