EDINBURGH\u2014<\/strong> A Jet2 (LS)<\/a> flight from Edinburgh Airport (EDI) <\/a>to Larnaca Airport (LCA) in Cyprus returned to Scotland shortly after departure on September 23, 2026, after a disruptive passenger incident onboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jet2 (LS) flight LS721 was operating the scheduled service when the aircraft turned back roughly 30 minutes into the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police Scotland confirmed that officers arrested and charged a 32-year-old man following the incident. The Boeing 737 landed safely at Edinburgh Airport, where police and emergency services met the aircraft and removed the passenger from the flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jet2 Flight Turns Back After Passenger Incident<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

LS721 departed Edinburgh for Larnaca on Wednesday afternoon before changing course over northern England. Flight tracking data showed the aircraft turning around near Newcastle after it had entered English airspace, bringing the flight back toward its departure airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft was scheduled to cover the Edinburgh<\/a>-Larnaca route in around five hours. The service normally operates as a direct connection between Scotland and Cyprus, with the route covering more than 3,600 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disruption meant passengers could not continue their planned journey on the original flight. Emergency crews and airport personnel were positioned at Edinburgh when the aircraft returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passenger Arrested After Onboard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Police Scotland said it received a report of a disruptive passenger at around 4:30 p.m. on September 23. A 32-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with several alleged offences, including assault and endangering an aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The passenger was escorted from the aircraft by police officers after it landed. Police said he was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on September 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident also prompted a response from emergency services at the airport. Footage from the scene showed fire crews and airport personnel around the aircraft while police dealt with the passenger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jet2 Responds To Major Flight Disruption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jet2 said it takes a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive passenger behaviour and condemned conduct of this nature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline also said it would take appropriate action against passengers when necessary, including pursuing cases through the courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carrier apologised to passengers and crew members who experienced the disruption. Jet2 also said it would seek to recover costs resulting from disruptive passenger behaviour where appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline’s LS721 service is regularly scheduled between Edinburgh and Larnaca, with flight data listing the Boeing 737-800<\/a> among the aircraft used on the route. The September 23 service was scheduled to depart Edinburgh at 3:20 p.m. and arrive in Larnaca later that evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police Scotland has appealed for anyone with relevant footage to contact officers through the 101 service, quoting incident number 2320 from September 23, the Daily Record<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
