The company expects increasingly capable AI algorithms to help pilots manage collaborative combat missions and coordinate with other platforms.

The future F5 standard is also being developed around collaborative combat concepts. Dassault says the Rafale F5 will work alongside an unmanned combat aircraft system, allowing the fighter and autonomous platforms to operate as part of a wider combat network.

Photo- Dassault Aviation

France Develops Advanced Combat AI Systems

The latest tests come as European defense companies increase their work on artificial intelligence for military aircraft.

Saab has tested AI capabilities on the Gripen E, while the United States has demonstrated machine-learning technology aboard a modified F-16 during earlier trials.

Dassault has also worked with other French technology partners on AI and autonomous systems. In July 2026, the company completed a collaborative flight involving a Rafale F4 and an unmanned aircraft carrying the NAMIB electronic warfare payload developed with Harmattan AI.

The latest Rafale AI flight tests therefore add another element to France’s effort to develop sovereign combat technologies.

With the two algorithms now tested in flight and considered mature enough for potential future upgrades, Dassault is continuing to prepare the Rafale for increasingly connected and AI-supported missions.

Stay tuned with us.
