HONOLULU\u2014<\/strong> Delta Air Lines (DL)<\/a> diverted Flight 394 to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) after fumes were reported inside the cabin shortly after the aircraft departed Kahului Airport (OGG)<\/a> for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A321neo was carrying 189 passengers when the crew decided to end the Pacific crossing and land in Honolulu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diversion later prompted a medical response after several passengers reported headaches and nausea linked to the fumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated three women, aged 42, 27 and 31, and transported them to an emergency room in stable condition, while the Federal Fire Department transported another patient who was also reported stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta Cabin Fumes Trigger Diversion Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred shortly after Flight 394 departed Maui on Saturday night. Instead of continuing toward Seattle<\/a>, the flight crew followed established procedures and redirected the aircraft to Honolulu after fumes were observed in the cabin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The A321neo landed safely, allowing passengers to leave the aircraft through air stairs before ground buses moved them away from the airplane. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diversion avoided a longer overwater flight while crews dealt with an unidentified cabin-air issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The source of the fumes has not been established. Delta said technicians would inspect the aircraft as the airline reviews the circumstances surrounding the incident and works with aviation authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers Receive Urgent Medical Treatment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Emergency crews responded to the airport at around 11 PM after reports of passengers experiencing headaches and nausea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three women received treatment before being taken to an emergency room, while another patient was treated and transported by the Federal Fire Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Delta flight attendant<\/a> also sought medical attention following the incident. The available reports indicate that the patients transported for treatment were in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the aircraft arrived in Honolulu, crews also observed fuel discharging from the airplane. Maintenance teams will need to determine whether the fuel discharge had any connection to the cabin-fume report or represented a separate operational matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta Arranges A Replacement Flight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Delta is keeping the aircraft under inspection while reviewing what happened. The airline has not identified the substance responsible for the fumes or confirmed a specific mechanical problem that caused them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers were scheduled to continue to Seattle on another aircraft from Honolulu the following morning. Delta also said it would issue refunds and contact affected passengers directly as it addressed the disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident adds to the operational challenges of flights between Hawaii and the US mainland, where aircraft spend significant time over the Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
