ISTANBUL-<\/strong> Singapore Airlines (SIA) <\/a>diverted its London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) service SQ305 to Istanbul on September 15 after a passenger required medical assistance during the flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singapore Airlines (SIA) said the Airbus A350-900 was carrying 197 passengers and 16 crew members when the aircraft landed at Istanbul Airport (IST). The affected passenger was taken to hospital after landing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singapore Airlines flight SQ305 departed London Heathrow Airport at 9:38 a.m. local time on September 15, bound for Singapore. The flight was scheduled to operate nonstop, with the journey normally taking about 13 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the flight, the crew diverted the aircraft to Istanbul Airport<\/a> after a passenger experienced a medical situation that required assistance on the ground. Singapore Airlines confirmed the diversion in response to queries from The Straits Times on September 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline did not disclose the nature of the medical situation. It said the details could not be provided because of passenger confidentiality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diversion also affected the onward operation of the flight because the crew would have exceeded their regulatory flight time limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, the aircraft did not continue to Singapore on September 15. Singapore Airlines rescheduled the service to depart Istanbul on September 16 at 12:10 p.m. local time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight was renumbered from SQ305 to SQ9391 for the Istanbul to Singapore sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SQ9391 eventually departed Istanbul at 12:10 p.m. local time on September 16 and arrived at Singapore Changi Airport at 3:33 a.m. local time on September 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This meant passengers experienced a significant delay compared with the original nonstop itinerary from London to Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singapore Airlines Arranged Passenger Assistance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Singapore Airlines said it provided necessary assistance to passengers affected by the diversion and rescheduling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline arranged hotel accommodation for passengers who needed to remain in Istanbul and helped rebook passengers onto alternative flights where required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrangements were made while the airline dealt with the crew duty restrictions and prepared for the onward journey to Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
