TORONTO\u2014<\/strong> Air Canada (AC)<\/a> has removed an in-flight service director from service after social media posts containing antisemitic comments and references to the Israel-Gaza conflict surfaced online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has launched a full investigation into the posts and said it does not tolerate hate speech or the promotion of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada spokesperson Sean Davidson confirmed the action in a written statement to National Post on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The employee, who works in the airline\u2019s cabin operations, was removed from service while the investigation continues, although Air Canada has not said whether the action was taken with or without pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada Social Media Posts Surface Online Quickly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A Facebook account carrying the same name as the in-flight service director contained numerous posts discussing Gaza, Israel and the wider Middle East<\/a> conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several posts included statements targeting Jewish people, while others compared Zionism with Nazism and described Israel\u2019s actions in Gaza as genocide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The posts also included references to a longstanding antisemitic conspiracy theory alleging that Jewish people control the media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other comments criticized Holocaust remembrance and questioned how the Holocaust is discussed in relation to the current conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The employee did not provide a statement when contacted by National Post. The allegations concern material attributed to a social media account matching his name, while Air Canada has not publicly detailed the findings of its investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada Begins Full Internal Investigation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada said it \u201cdenounces hate speech and promotion of violence in all forms\u201d and confirmed that the individual had been removed from service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has not released further details while the internal review is underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Air Canada Component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents the airline\u2019s cabin crew, said it was aware of the matter and was in contact with the member. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The union also said it would fulfill its legal obligations of representation during the investigation, the Vancouver Sun<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case comes as Air Canada prepares to resume its Toronto Pearson (YYZ)<\/a>\u2013Tel Aviv Ben Gurion (TLV) service on November 30, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline said the route will operate four times weekly using Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft after a review of operational, safety and security conditions in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous Air Canada Social Media Case<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The latest incident follows another Air Canada employee case involving controversial social media activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2023, the airline removed a Boeing 787<\/a> first officer from service after posts attributed to him surfaced online, including material from an anti-Israel demonstration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Canada later confirmed that the pilot no longer worked for the company. The earlier case established a precedent for the carrier taking employment action after controversial social media content involving an employee became public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current investigation will determine how Air Canada handles the latest case. For now, the airline has provided no additional details about the employee\u2019s employment status or the potential outcome of the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
