several American Airlines A321XLRs recently operated with at least one Business Class suite unavailable, while another aircraft reportedly had two seats blocked.

The information comes from aviation sources cited by JonNYC, which reported that seat-control problems were among the main issues affecting the aircraft.

The reported defects can leave a seat stuck in an upright or reclined position, making it unsuitable for passengers.

Since these are lie-flat premium seats with complex mechanical systems, even a relatively small malfunction can require maintenance before the seat returns to service.

The seats use a 1-1 layout, giving each Business Class passenger direct aisle access while allowing the aircraft to offer a premium experience within a single-aisle cabin.

Collins Aerospace describes its Aurora platform as a lie-flat suite designed to provide a widebody-style premium experience on the A321XLR.

<img decoding="async" width="2560"

The airline has already introduced the aircraft on transatlantic service between New York and Edinburgh and plans to use the type on several additional European routes in 2027.

American will operate A321XLR flights from JFK to <a href="https://aviationa2z.com/index.php/tag/amsterdam-airport/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer Vienna International Airport (VIE).

The expansion demonstrates how American is using the aircraft to connect smaller or specialized international markets with its U.S. hubs.

<img decoding="async" width="1920" height="1080" src="https://aviationa2z.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/53fo1pxr.webp" has also introduced its OneCabin maintenance initiative to address cabin defects more quickly.

The program includes more than 60 additional maintenance technicians focused on problems involving seats, tray tables, entertainment systems, and other passenger-facing equipment, <a American will also need sufficient aircraft ground time and access to replacement components if it wants to prevent recurring cabin defects from affecting the availability of premium seats.

With more A321XLR aircraft joining the fleet, the reliability of the new Business Class product will become increasingly important.

American’s planned European expansion means these aircraft will spend more time on long-haul missions where every available premium seat can contribute to the value of the operation.

Stay tuned with us.
