DOHA\u2014<\/strong> Qatar Airways (QR) <\/a>has quietly relaxed restrictions on how Privilege Club members can use Avios to book award flights for other travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The change gives members more flexibility after the airline introduced tighter redemption controls in July 2026, which required travelers to meet additional conditions before adding people to their redemption lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The updated policy affects Qatar Airways\u2019 Privilege Club program, which allows members to redeem Avios for award flights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways operates from Hamad International Airport (DOH) <\/a>in Doha, and its loyalty program now requires a Privilege Club account to be at least 30 days old before members can create a My List, while the earlier flight or co-branded card requirement has been removed from the current My List rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways Eases Avios Rules For Award Bookings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The latest change reverses one of the most restrictive parts of the July policy. Previously, members who wanted to redeem Avios for another person had to place that traveler in either My List or Family & Friends and satisfy qualifying activity requirements before gaining that ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the updated My List terms, members can create a list once their Privilege Club account has existed for at least 30 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feature allows a member to add up to four other Privilege Club members for Avios award bookings, making it easier to arrange travel for relatives, friends and companions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways\u2019 current Family & Friends information also confirms the 30-day membership condition for adding people to My List.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This represents a significant simplification compared with the earlier rules, which required qualifying Avios activity through a flight or an eligible Qatar Airways co-branded card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My List Gets Simpler For Avios Members<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The revised approach does not completely remove controls over Avios redemptions. Members still need to use the appropriate list system, while Qatar Airways retains separate conditions governing My List and Family & Friends participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My List can contain up to four people, and members added to the list must remain there for a minimum of six months under the current terms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways also says only active Privilege Club members can create a list, while invited members must be at least 18 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has also maintained greater flexibility for its highest-tier members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gold and Platinum Privilege Club members can book award flights for people who are not on their My List, although such bookings may need to be handled through Qatar Airways\u2019 contact or member service channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Impact On Avios Members And Travelers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The policy change should make Avios more practical for members who collect points through transferable currencies but do not regularly fly Qatar Airways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the earlier system, such members faced an additional barrier before they could nominate travelers for award bookings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original restrictions appeared alongside wider efforts by loyalty programs to control fraudulent activity and unauthorized rewards trading. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
