ATLANTA-<\/strong> A Delta Air Lines <\/a>passenger secured a Delta One business class upgrade for just $17.34 on a more than 15-hour flight from Atlanta to Seoul<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The extraordinary offer came on Delta Air Lines (DAL) between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN)<\/a>, turning an expensive long-haul premium cabin into an unusually cheap upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The traveler initially received the offer in July 2026 while holding a Delta Premium Select ticket. The upgrade was also available for 1,700 SkyMiles, and although the price appeared unusually low, the passenger purchased it and later completed the journey in Delta One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

$17 Upgrade Finally Honored By Delta<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The passenger had several weeks to wait before departure and repeatedly checked the reservation, expecting Delta to correct what appeared to be a pricing error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, the upgrade remained attached to the booking, and the traveler was able to check in normally for both the LaGuardia-Atlanta and Atlanta-Seoul segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final upgrade included a lie-flat Delta One seat, with the passenger later sharing images from seat 10D, along with the onboard meal and breakfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta’s post-purchase system allows eligible customers to buy cabin upgrades through its website or Fly Delta app when availability exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unusual transaction also generated an electronic miscellaneous document linked to the upgrade, allowing the passenger to retain the confirmed premium-cabin purchase through travel. The traveler ultimately reported that Delta honored the $17.34 price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upgrade Price Unexpectedly Collapsed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The price had previously been nowhere near $17.34. According to the passenger’s account, the upgrade was initially offered at $2,390 before climbing to $2,661, then falling to $1,812.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the traveler changed the return itinerary to fly Korean Air’s Boeing 747 from Seoul, the reservation was repriced across several fare classes. The Delta One upgrade subsequently dropped to $1,671 before plunging to $17.34 shortly afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sharp change illustrates how Delta’s post-purchase upgrade pricing can fluctuate according to itinerary changes, inventory and booking conditions. However, neither Delta nor the passenger publicly established exactly why the final offer fell so dramatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta Premium Strategy Gains Momentum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Delta has increasingly relied on paid premium-cabin upgrades as part of its broader strategy to generate additional revenue from higher-value seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline officially allows eligible passengers to purchase post-ticketing upgrades to Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta First and Delta Comfort when available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta’s upgrade system can also support mileage-based transactions, giving SkyMiles members another route to premium cabins. For eligible reservations, customers can view upgrade opportunities through My Trips and select available seats using money or miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The $17.34 transaction remains an exceptional case, particularly for a 15-hour transpacific journey, View From The Wing<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the passenger had already paid around $4,500 for the wider itinerary, the final upgrade transformed the Atlanta-Seoul sector into an unusually inexpensive Delta One experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
