MUMBAI\u2014<\/strong> IndiGo (6E)<\/a> is set to expand its international network with daily flights between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from November 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new service will strengthen the Indian airline\u2019s presence in East Africa and add another link between India and one of the region\u2019s key commercial centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The route will operate from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM)<\/a> in Mumbai to Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The planned launch follows discussions between IndiGo executives and India\u2019s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, although the airline has yet to make a formal announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo Expands into Africa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dar es Salaam will become IndiGo\u2019s second destination in continental Africa and its fourth destination on the broader African continent and island markets, alongside services to Mauritius and Seychelles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expansion reflects the carrier\u2019s strategy of adding capacity where it sees strong passenger demand and opportunities to connect underserved markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indian High Commission in Tanzania recently confirmed that IndiGo plans to begin daily Mumbai-Dar es Salaam flights in November. The announcement came after a meeting between airline representatives and the High Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo will enter a market where Air Tanzania already operates nonstop services between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam. Air Tanzania currently uses Boeing 787 aircraft on the route, giving travelers another direct option between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo’s Mumbai Network Grows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Tanzania expansion comes as IndiGo continues to reshape its international network rather than simply adding routes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline is also preparing to launch flights between Mumbai and Hanoi, Vietnam, from October 25, targeting leisure and other growing travel demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, IndiGo is withdrawing from some markets and reducing its reliance on temporary widebody capacity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline plans to end its Chennai-Reunion service from October and is returning six Boeing 787 aircraft operated under damp-lease arrangements, The Hindu Business Line reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo is also suspending its London Heathrow service as it adjusts its widebody strategy. The carrier expects its Airbus A350 fleet to play a greater role in long-haul international expansion, with its first A350-900 deliveries expected in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

African Demand Drives Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo\u2019s network planning strategy increasingly focuses on matching capacity with customer demand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior Vice President for Network Planning and Revenue Management Abhijit DasGupta has previously said the airline will consider both new destinations and additional frequencies depending on market opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline sees potential in connecting emerging commercial centres, tourism destinations and markets where nonstop links remain limited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mumbai-Dar es Salaam service fits that strategy by creating another direct connection between India and East Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India and Tanzania maintain broad commercial and diplomatic ties, while tourism, trade and people-to-people connections continue to support demand between the two countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If launched as planned, IndiGo\u2019s daily service will add further capacity to an important India-East Africa corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
