The airline demonstrated the new AW3 aircraft-washing robot to the press at its aircraft washing facility on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developed by Sweden-based Aerowash AB, the AW3 uses a remotely operated telescopic arm to clean an aircraft&#8217;s exterior. JAL will continue using some manual cleaning methods even after the AW3 enters regular service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline expects the robot to reduce labor hours by as much as 40% per aircraft. The reduction is intended to ease the physical workload for employees rather than eliminate their roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Atsuki Kino of JAL&#8217;s Airport Ground Handling Planning Department said the airline&#8217;s objective is to allow employees to use time saved through automation for other higher-value tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-safety-benefits-for-ground-staff\">Safety Benefits for Ground Staff<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>JAL also expects the automated washing process to improve working conditions for employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manual aircraft cleaning can require staff to work at height while handling cleaning chemicals.
