DALLAS-<\/strong> Southwest Airlines (WN)<\/a>, headquartered in Dallas, has been permanently barred from using future social media posts by flight attendant Charlene Carter to discipline or terminate her employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ruling marks another major legal victory for Carter, who has spent nine years challenging Southwest and the Transport Workers Union, Local 556 (TWU 556) over her religious beliefs and social media activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest Barred From Using Carter\u2019s Future Social Media Posts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A federal judge in North Texas has issued a permanent injunction preventing Southwest Airlines from proactively monitoring or using Charlene Carter\u2019s future religious statements on social media as a basis for disciplinary action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Brantley Starr ruled that Southwest cannot use Carter\u2019s religious statements, including posts concerning abortion, to discipline, discharge, or take other negative employment action against her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ruling adds another chapter to a long-running legal dispute that began after Southwest fired Carter in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carter was a veteran Southwest flight attendant<\/a> when the airline terminated her employment after she sent extremely graphic images of aborted fetuses to other crew members through Facebook without their consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest accused Carter of workplace bullying and violating the airline\u2019s social media policy. Carter challenged the termination, arguing that her posts reflected sincerely held religious beliefs and were protected under federal religious discrimination law, PYOK<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
