CHICAGO-<\/strong> United Airlines (UA)<\/a> is facing a lawsuit from flight attendant Lisa Denson, who alleges that former United first officer Andrew Hill secretly recorded her, posted intimate images online, impersonated her, and stalked her after their relationship ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawsuit now centers on whether United may have negligently supervised and retained Hill after police allegedly informed its Corporate Security department about his conduct in April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United Pilot Allegedly Impersonated Flight Attendant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Denson has worked as a United flight attendant<\/a> since 2015. She says she met Hill while working a flight in 2016, and their relationship lasted until September 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her lawsuit, Hill invited Denson to travel as a nonrev on trips he worked. They stayed together in hotel rooms United paid for during his layovers. Denson says she sent him intimate photos on the condition that they remain private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She alleges that Hill secretly recorded them having s*x and filmed her undr**sing from her United uniform without her knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017, Denson says she discovered that Hill had posted her images and videos on Reddit under the name \u201cTinkGoneWild.\u201d She confronted him, and he told her he had removed the material and would stop. They continued dating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denson says she ended the relationship in September 2021 after discovering that Hill was cheating with several United employees. She alleges that he then repeatedly called and texted her, appeared uninvited at her home, peered through her windows, left flowers and appeared at an event she attended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She says she changed the flights she bid for to avoid working with him but did not report the alleged conduct to United while it was happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police Found Years of Images and Fake Profiles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In January 2024, another former United flight attendant reported to police in Cedar City, Utah, that someone had spent more than a decade creating profiles in her name, distributing intimate images on sites including Ad*ltFriendFinder and Reddit, and directing strangers to contact her for s*x by phone and at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators traced the internet activity to Hill\u2019s connection. They also found intimate images and videos involving Denson and 10 other women, including other United employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Denson\u2019s lawsuit<\/a>, Hill posted material involving her regularly from 2017 through April 2024. Some posts allegedly named Denson, identified her as a United flight attendant, or showed her partially n*de in uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawsuit also alleges that Hill impersonated Denson online and used her identity and images to solicit s*x from strangers. One fake Kik account allegedly portrayed the other victim as having r*pe fantasies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Utah criminal prosecution involved the other former United flight attendant, not Denson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hill pleaded guilty in October 2024 to 8 felony counts of distributing p*rn*graphy, one count of stalking and one count of s*xual extortion. He received a sentence of 0 to 5 years, with the judge recommending that he serve the full 5 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police Allegedly Warned United in April 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On April 23, 2024, Utah authorities served United with a warrant seeking Hill\u2019s employment information, flight records, travel records, hotel records, and related evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denson alleges that a detective also told a United Corporate Security investigative manager what police had found. She says United then failed to contact her, warn other employees, investigate Hill, place him on leave, or remove him from service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complaint also alleges that the investigator falsely claimed United had notified Denson and provided support resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United disputes that account, saying the detective did not identify Denson and that Hill was arrested and removed from service at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United also says he never flew for the airline again. Denson alleges that United terminated him only after efforts to save his job through the pilots union failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three of Denson\u2019s Claims Were Dismissed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Three of the four claims against United were dismissed without prejudice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hostile Work Environment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Denson did not report Hill\u2019s alleged harassment while it was occurring. She alleges United learned about the conduct in April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court did not find that coworkers asking about the criminal case established the severe or pervasive s*x-based hostile work environment required for the claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Federal Intimate Image Claim<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The federal law prohibiting the disclosure of intimate images does not automatically make United liable for Hill\u2019s alleged criminal conduct because distributing the images was not part of his job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colorado Intimate Image Claim<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Denson pointed to United-paid layover hotel rooms and possible use of company-provided electronics. Those connections did not make United responsible for Hill\u2019s alleged criminal acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Negligent Supervision and Retention Claim<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The surviving claim concerns United\u2019s alleged response after police contacted Corporate Security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denson alleges that United received specific notice that a current pilot had distributed intimate images involving her and other United flight attendants. She says United left Hill in place for another 2 or 3 months without contacting her, investigating him, or placing him on leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She alleges that she continued to suffer harm during that period, including changing her work schedule to avoid Hill, taking days off, and experiencing additional workplace and emotional harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the motion-to-dismiss stage, the judge treats the complaint\u2019s factual allegations as true for purposes of deciding whether the claim can proceed. The allegations were sufficient to suggest that United may have had a duty to act and may have responded too slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ruling does not establish that United was negligent. It allows the claim to proceed to discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Timing Matters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The surviving claim is different from the dismissed claims because it focuses on what United allegedly knew after police provided specific information in April 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denson\u2019s amended allegations say her injuries continued after United received that notice. That gives her negligent-supervision and retention theory a basis for arguing that United had a duty to act after learning about Hill\u2019s alleged conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case therefore turns on United\u2019s alleged response after receiving notice, rather than simply on whether United was responsible for Hill\u2019s private criminal acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similar United Case<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The source also identifies a similar United case from 2018 involving another pilot who allegedly posted explicit images of a United flight attendant online, along with her name, home airport, uniform, and references to \u201cFly the Friendly Skies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EEOC filed a case against United. The airline paid $321,000 and agreed to harassment-policy changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That earlier case provides context for the argument that United had previously faced allegations involving similar online s*xual harassment by a pilot against a flight attendant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Happens Next<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The remaining claim will depend on evidence about what United\u2019s Corporate Security team was told, what action the airline took, when Hill was removed or terminated, and whether Denson can establish harm connected to the alleged delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current ruling does not determine United\u2019s liability. It allows the negligent supervision and retention claim to continue while the dismissed theories remain out of the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
