TOKYO-<\/strong> A Malaysia Airlines (MH)<\/a> Airbus A330 bound for Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) aborted its takeoff at Narita International Airport (NRT)<\/a> on Thursday after an aircraft problem was reported during the departure sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Black smoke was seen coming from the aircraft as it moved toward the runway at about 10:40 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft was operating as Malaysia Airlines Flight MH89 to Kuala Lumpur and was carrying 160 passengers and crew. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The takeoff was stopped safely, with no injuries reported among those on board, while airport emergency crews responded to the aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Airlines A330 Takeoff Aborted<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft was reportedly an Airbus A330<\/a>, with the airport branch of Japan\u2019s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism indicating that the problem was believed to involve its left engine. The aircraft stopped on the runway after the crew aborted the takeoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Black smoke was visible as the aircraft moved onto the runway, prompting emergency services at Narita to respond. Fire engines and ambulances were positioned near the aircraft as airport personnel dealt with the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
