FRANKFURT-<\/strong> Lufthansa (LH)<\/a> will temporarily suspend Airbus A380 operations on two routes from Munich Airport (MUC) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) during the first quarter of 2027. The seasonal adjustment reflects lower transatlantic demand while maintaining service with the Airbus A350-900.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, the German flag carrier will deploy additional Airbus A380<\/a> capacity on high demand Asian routes from Munich Airport (MUC) to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), and continue daily operations to Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). The changes also come as Lufthansa (LH) continues upgrading its A380 business class cabins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lufthansa Shifts Airbus A380 Capacity to Asia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lufthansa has revised its Airbus A380 schedule for January and February 2027, removing the aircraft from two major California routes while increasing operations across selected Asian destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to schedule updates reported by AeroRoutes<\/a>, Lufthansa will withdraw the Airbus A380 from flights between Munich and Los Angeles from January 11 through February 26, 2027<\/strong>. The airline had originally planned to operate six weekly A380 services on the route, with one weekly Airbus A350-900 flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the revised schedule, the Airbus A350-900 will operate all seven weekly flights between Munich and Los Angeles during this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A similar adjustment will take place on the Munich to San Francisco<\/a> route. From January 16 through February 27, 2027<\/strong>, the Airbus A350-900 will replace the six planned weekly Airbus A380 flights, resulting in daily A350 operations throughout the seasonal period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These schedule changes are part of Lufthansa’s regular winter planning. January and February traditionally represent the weakest demand period for transatlantic travel, prompting airlines to adjust aircraft deployment to better match passenger demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Lufthansa spokesperson previously noted that schedule adjustments during this period are standard practice because passenger demand is consistently lower during the first two months of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Airbus A380 Flights to Bangkok and Mumbai<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While demand declines on some North American routes during winter, several Asian markets continue to perform strongly for Lufthansa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline will use the Airbus A380 capacity released from its California services to strengthen operations from Munich to Bangkok<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between January 16 and February 26, 2027<\/strong>, Lufthansa will increase Airbus A380 flights between Munich and Bangkok from one daily service to two daily flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
