PALMA DE MALLORCA\u2014<\/strong> Passengers on a Jet2 (LS)<\/a> flight from Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) to Bristol Airport (BRS) faced several hours of disruption after ground equipment struck the wingtip of their aircraft while it was preparing for departure on August 16, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jet2 flight LS1872 was scheduled to leave Palma at 10:25 a.m. local time for Bristol, but the Boeing 737-800<\/a> was taken out of its departure sequence after boarding stairs collided with the aircraft’s wingtip. Passengers were asked to leave the aircraft while the incident was dealt with on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jet2 Passenger Stranded in Spain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The disruption initially appeared to be linked to an air traffic restriction. According to passenger Finley, travellers were first told that the flight would face a two-hour delay after they had already boarded the aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the situation changed shortly afterward when the ground stairs vehicle collided with the wingtip. The aircraft was then returned to the terminal, leaving passengers waiting while ground personnel assessed the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finley said passengers had already spent considerable time at the airport before the incident occurred. The additional delay meant the journey home was pushed back by several hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LS1872 service normally operates between Palma de Mallorca and Bristol as a direct flight. The route covers roughly 860 miles and takes around two and a half hours under normal operating conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers Return To Terminal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Passengers were eventually allowed to leave the aircraft and return to the terminal. They then waited for about another hour before being told that they could board the Boeing 737-800 again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft involved was configured to carry up to 189 passengers. After the ground incident, the return to service depended on the aircraft being assessed and cleared for the flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finley described the experience as particularly frustrating for passengers who had expected a straightforward journey home after a short holiday. He said the group had arrived at the airport at around 7:30 a.m. and faced a long wait before boarding for a second time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The passenger said travellers were relieved to be getting back onto the aircraft, despite the substantial delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Departure Pushed Back<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The flight was eventually expected to depart Palma at around 3 p.m. local time, or 2 p.m. in the United Kingdom. That represented a delay of more than four hours compared with the originally scheduled 10:25 a.m. departure, Bristol Live<\/a> flagged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident also illustrates how ground handling events can quickly disrupt an aircraft’s scheduled operation, even when the original delay has a different cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jet2 had been asked for comment regarding the incident and the condition of the aircraft following the wingtip contact. Further details on any inspection or operational consequences were not immediately available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
