DUBAI-<\/strong> Emirates Airline (EK)<\/a> has announced further changes to its Airbus A380 operations, temporarily removing the superjumbo from flights between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and both Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The adjustments come as the airline continues to respond to operational challenges linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest schedule revisions reduce Emirates’ (EK) Airbus A380<\/a> presence in the United States during September and most of October. The carrier will instead operate Boeing 777 aircraft on the affected routes while maintaining A380 service to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates Revises A380 Deployment on Key US Routes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Emirates has been making frequent adjustments to its long-haul network since regional tensions disrupted operations earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airlines regularly submit schedule updates to aviation databases such as Cirium Diio and OAG, allowing carriers to modify routes, aircraft types, frequencies, and seasonal schedules based on operational and commercial requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest updates confirm that Emirates will continue reducing Airbus A380 operations on two important US destinations through September and much of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Dulles Loses A380 Service Again<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Emirates had originally planned to operate the Airbus A380 daily between Dubai and Washington Dulles after restoring the aircraft on August 1. The route had previously switched to the lower capacity Boeing 777-300ER<\/a> following the start of the regional conflict in late February 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has now revised those plans. According to the updated schedule, the 489 seat Airbus A380 will continue operating until August 31 before being withdrawn once again. The aircraft is currently scheduled to return no earlier than October 25, when the aviation industry transitions to the IATA winter schedule season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until then, Emirates will continue serving Washington Dulles using its first class equipped Boeing 777-300ER, which offers approximately 354 seats. The airline has not confirmed whether the A380 will definitely return on October 25, leaving open the possibility of a longer suspension if operational conditions require.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traffic data from the US Department of Transportation also highlights weaker passenger demand on the route. During March and April 2026, Emirates filled only 50.7 percent of available seats between Dubai<\/a> and Washington, despite already operating the smaller Boeing 777. During the same period in 2025, the load factor stood at 62.6 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The combination of softer demand and operational uncertainty makes the temporary aircraft downgrade commercially understandable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Dulles has also experienced a significant decline in Airbus A380 activity overall. Compared with September 2025, superjumbo operations have fallen by roughly two-thirds. Lufthansa (LH)<\/a> now remains the only airline operating scheduled Airbus A380 flights at the airport through its Frankfurt Airport (FRA) service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Airways (BA), which previously operated the aircraft from London Heathrow Airport (LHR), no longer flies the type to Washington, Simple Flying<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houston Also Sees Temporary A380 Withdrawal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport will experience a similar reduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates had operated the Airbus A380 to Houston<\/a> until February 27 before suspending all flights to the Texas city for more than two months. Service resumed on May 2 with the Airbus A380.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the previous schedule, the airline planned to operate the 484-seat Airbus A380 through August 31 before replacing it with the Boeing 777-200ER during September. The superjumbo had been expected to return on October 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest schedule extends the suspension further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates will now remove the Airbus A380 from Houston between August 25 and October 24. During this period, flights will be operated using the Boeing 777-200ER, which seats approximately 276 passengers and does not include a first class cabin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the Washington route, the Airbus A380 is tentatively scheduled to return on October 25, although the airline has not finalized those plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houston has historically seen limited Airbus A380 service. Emirates and Lufthansa are the only airlines to have operated the aircraft into the airport. Lufthansa previously flew the Airbus A380 between Frankfurt and Houston from 2014 until 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, Houston will have no scheduled Airbus A380 operations for nearly two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates Maintains A380 Service on Three US Routes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Despite the reductions, Emirates continues operating the Airbus A380 on several major US destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
