{"id":153778,"date":"2026-08-12T05:34:00","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T00:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?p=153778"},"modified":"2026-08-12T00:32:46","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T19:02:46","slug":"qantas-delays-a321xlr-manila-debut-to-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/12\/qantas-delays-a321xlr-manila-debut-to-2027\/","title":{"rendered":"Qantas Delays Airbus A321XLR International Debut, Manila Flights Pushed to 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>MANILA-<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/tag\/qantas\/\">Qantas (QF)<\/a> has delayed the planned international debut of its Airbus A321XLR, moving the first scheduled service on the type from October 2026 to February 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The change affects the<a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/index.php\/tag\/brisbane\/\"> Brisbane (BNE) <\/a>to Manila route and means passengers will initially continue seeing the larger Airbus A330 on the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qantas had originally planned to introduce the A321XLR on the Brisbane (BNE)\u2013Manila (MNL) route from October 25, 2026. The aircraft was expected to replace the <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?s=A330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Airbus A330-200<\/a> on the Brisbane\u2013Manila service as Qantas expanded the route to daily operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The A330-200 will therefore continue serving the route through January 31, 2027, while the A321XLR is now scheduled to take over from February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qantas had secured additional capacity for the Brisbane\u2013Manila market, with Australia\u2019s International Air Services Commission approving two extra weekly frequencies for the carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Brisbane\u2013Manila route is not new for Qantas. The airline\u2019s initial A321XLR configuration accommodates 197 passengers, while the wider fleet will eventually include aircraft with lie-flat Business Class seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aircraft is designed to offer longer range than conventional narrowbody jets while retaining the operating flexibility of a single-aisle aircraft. Qantas says the A321XLR is five metres longer than the <a href=\"https:\/\/aviationa2z.com\/?s=737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Boeing 737<\/a> it will replace and can carry 197 passengers in its initial configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qantas has ordered 48 A321XLRs in total, highlighting the aircraft\u2019s importance to its fleet renewal strategy. The route will operate daily, giving passengers more options between Queensland and the Philippine capital, <a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/qantas-delays-1st-a321xlr-international-flight-to-2027-full-update-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Simple Flying<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The A321XLR is already being introduced across Qantas\u2019 domestic network, including Sydney (SYD), Brisbane (BNE), Melbourne (MEL), and Perth (PER). Qantas expects the aircraft to eventually serve destinations across Australia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delayed Manila launch will therefore mark an important step in Qantas\u2019 A321XLR strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the aircraft finally enters international service, it will demonstrate how the airline intends to use the long-range narrowbody on international routes while continuing to expand the type across its broader network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay tuned with us.
