DOHA-<\/strong> Qatar Airways (QR)<\/a> will operate its first scheduled Airbus A380 service to Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) from Hamad International Airport (DOH) on January 28, 2027. The one-day deployment marks a rare appearance of the double-deck aircraft on one of the airline’s short regional routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The temporary schedule will see Qatar Airways replace its usual Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 aircraft on flights between Doha and Amman with the Airbus A380. The airline has not disclosed the reason behind the special aircraft assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways Rare A380 Deployment on Amman Route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways has scheduled the Airbus A380<\/a> to operate a single round-trip service between Doha and Amman on Thursday, January 28, 2027. While the airline frequently serves Jordan’s capital, the route is almost always operated by twin-engine widebody aircraft, making this deployment highly unusual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Simple Flying<\/a>, which cited schedule information published by Aero Routes, the Airbus A380 will operate the following flights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although several low-cost airlines routinely complete aircraft turnarounds in 30 minutes or less, the Airbus A380 requires considerably more ground handling due to its size, passenger capacity, baggage volume, catering requirements, and boarding process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airbus generally indicates that operators allow around two hours for a standard A380 turnaround, making the planned 90-minute turnaround relatively efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amman Usually Sees Qatar Airways’ Twinjet Fleet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Amman is one of Qatar Airways’ key regional destinations from its Doha hub. Current schedule data from aviation analytics provider Cirium shows the airline operating 3 daily round trips between Doha and Amman during August, totaling 93 round-trip flights for the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike the January 2027 service, every regularly scheduled flight is assigned to a twin-engine widebody aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates Already Brings the A380 to Jordan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While the January operation will be Qatar Airways’ first scheduled Airbus A380 flight to Amman, it will not be the airport’s first experience with the world’s largest passenger aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates (EK)<\/a> already operates one of its 2 daily flights between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) using the Airbus A380.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline’s second daily service is scheduled with a mix of the Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 777-300ER. Current schedules show 23 rotations operated by the A350-900 and 8 rotations by the Boeing 777-300ER during the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regular Emirates A380 operation demonstrates that Queen Alia International Airport has the infrastructure and operational capability required to accommodate the superjumbo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways operates its Airbus A380 fleet in a three-class configuration with 517 seats, according to aircraft layout data from aeroLOPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economy Class accounts for 461 seats, representing approximately 89.2% of the aircraft’s total capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lower deck contains 405 Economy Class seats arranged in a 3-4-3 configuration, while the rear section of the upper deck accommodates another 56 Economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
