The first aircraft to receive the system is a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo, with the inaugural passenger flight scheduled for August 19.

The project represents one of the largest inflight connectivity upgrades undertaken by any airline group in Europe. Working with satellite internet provider Starlink, Lufthansa Group plans to equip around 850 aircraft across its network by 2029.

The new system uses a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, allowing passengers to access significantly faster internet than traditional satellite-based inflight WiFi systems. The improved bandwidth supports demanding online activities such as HD video streaming, cloud-based work applications, web browsing, and other data-intensive services during flight.

According to Lufthansa Group, the introduction of Starlink connectivity forms part of its broader investment strategy covering new aircraft, cabin improvements, digital services, and enhancements throughout the passenger journey.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683"
