DALLAS\u2014<\/strong> American Airlines (AA)<\/a> is expanding its partnership with Dallas barbecue institution Pecan Lodge, bringing its Texas-style barbecue to First Class passengers on all domestic flights departing Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)<\/a> that offer meal service from September 9, 2026. Pre-orders for the expanded menu will open August 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move significantly broadens an experiment that began earlier this year on flights between DFW and the New York area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After extending the offering to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)<\/a> and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), American will now make Pecan Lodge available across its domestic meal network from its largest hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Expands BBQ on DFW Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The airline introduced Pecan Lodge barbecue in February on select DFW flights to New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership initially featured two rotating First Class meals, allowing passengers to pre-order a distinctly Texas-inspired alternative to American’s regular domestic menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expansion follows strong customer feedback, according to American Senior Vice President of Customer Experience Design and Strategy Rhonda Crawford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said Pecan Lodge’s bold Texas flavors perform particularly well in an aircraft environment and can give passengers a more memorable dining experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pecan Lodge, founded in 2010, is known for Central Texas-style barbecue and has received recognition from outlets including the Food Network, The New York Times and Travel + Leisure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its Dallas smokehouse prepares the food before the meals move through American’s catering operation for onboard service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two BBQ Meals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Passengers will be able to choose between two Pecan Lodge options, subject to the meals available on their flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The barbecue platter has generally proved the more consistent choice in passenger reports, while reactions to the sandwich have been more varied. Some travelers have praised its brisket, sauce and fluffy bun, although the sandwich can be messier to eat and its texture may depend on how it handles reheating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That distinction matters for airline catering. Brisket and sausage can retain moisture relatively well, while chopped meat has more exposed surface area and can become drier during reheating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A New DFW Food Strategy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

American’s decision to make the partnership available across domestic meal flights represents a wider shift toward regional and premium-focused food choices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has increasingly used recognizable brands and upgraded products to differentiate its premium cabins and lounges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pecan Lodge partnership also gives American a way to connect its Dallas hub with a recognizable local food identity. The airline has previously emphasized other premium dining improvements, including partnerships involving Champagne Bollinger and Lavazza coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American operates more than 6,000 daily flights to over 350 destinations<\/strong> and serves more than 200 million customers annually<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pecan Lodge expansion therefore takes what began as a limited route experiment and turns it into a much broader domestic First Class dining option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
