Although these incidents rarely result in injuries, they can cause significant delays, expensive repairs, and aircraft downtime.

According to aviation insider JonNYC on X, JetBlue has replaced its traditional “prepare for departure” announcement with a more detailed instruction:

“Inflight Crewmembers, arm your doors, cross check, and standby for all call.”

The airline believes the longer announcement encourages flight attendants to slow down and focus on the door arming process instead of performing the task from habit. The revised wording is intended to create a mental pause before one of the most safety-critical procedures completed before every flight.

Reported by PYOK, the revised callout also brings JetBlue’s procedures closer to the standard terminology used by many other airlines.

Photo: Clément Alloing

Why Emergency Slide Deployments Occur

Accidental emergency slide deployments are a well-known issue throughout commercial aviation.

Airbus, the sole aircraft manufacturer supplying JetBlue’s fleet, previously found that approximately three inadvertent slide deployments occur worldwide every day.

Most incidents happen after an aircraft arrives at its destination.
