FORT WORTH-<\/strong> American Airlines (AA)<\/a> has quietly scaled back its 24 hour free refund policy, removing the flexibility it previously offered on tickets purchased close to departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The change brings the Fort Worth based carrier exactly in line with federal minimum requirements, while Delta Air Lines (DL)<\/a> retains the most generous 24 hour refund terms among major United States airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Changed In American’s 24 Hour Refund Terms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The update was first flagged by View from the Wing<\/a> and subsequently reported by OMAAT<\/a>, which confirmed that American now complies with regulations rather than exceeding them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until this update, American allowed passengers to cancel a booking within 24 hours of purchase and receive a full refund to the original form of payment, provided the ticket was issued at least two days before departure. That 2 day threshold has been removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the revised terms, a passenger qualifies for a full refund within 24 hours of purchase only if the ticket was booked at least seven days before departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyone purchasing inside that seven-day window no longer has access to a free cash refund during the first 24 hours after booking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
