VANCOUVER-<\/strong> A man already serving a life sentence for the murder of former Air India (AI)<\/a> bombing suspect Ripudaman Singh Malik has received an additional 15-year prison sentence for an unrelated killing in British Columbia. The latest sentence relates to the 2022 death of Chad Colivas near Abbotsford International Airport (YXX)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Tanner Fox was sentenced after pleading guilty to manslaughter with a firearm in the killing of Chad Colivas. The case is separate from the murder of Malik, whose death drew national attention because of his connection to the Air India (AI) bombing case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tanner Fox Receives Additional 15-Year Prison Sentence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed that 25-year-old Tanner Fox was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the manslaughter of 41-year-old Chad Colivas of Abbotsford, British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police said officers found Colivas suffering from gunshot wounds at his home on March 21, 2022. He later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to IHIT spokeswoman Freda Fong, Colivas was unarmed when he confronted Fox, who had entered the home unlawfully. Investigators determined that the incident was not connected to gang activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fox pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a firearm in April 2026. The sentence was handed down on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Break and Enter Case Led to Arrests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fox was arrested in 2023 alongside 30-year-old Laetitia Acera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acera pleaded guilty to break and enter in connection with the incident. She received a four-year prison sentence followed by two years of probation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fox’s conviction stemmed from the fatal confrontation inside the Abbotsford home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous Conviction in Ripudaman Singh Malik Murder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The latest sentence is separate from Fox’s conviction in the killing of Ripudaman Singh Malik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 14, 2022, Malik was shot and killed while sitting in his Tesla at a business park in Surrey, British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fox and another man later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malik had previously been acquitted of charges related to the 1985 Air India bombing<\/a>, one of the deadliest acts of aviation terrorism in history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life Sentence Already Being Served<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Fox was sentenced in 2025 to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for 20 years for Malik’s murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During court proceedings, his lawyer said Fox had been adopted from Thailand<\/a> by Canadian parents when he was three years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fox told the court that he was “young and dumb” when he carried out the contract killing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have not publicly identified who they believe hired Fox and his accomplice to kill Malik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigation Remains Focused on Separate Cases<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Investigators have consistently stated that the killing of Chad Colivas and the assassination of Ripudaman Singh Malik were unrelated crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The additional 15-year sentence adds to Fox’s existing life sentence but does not alter the parole ineligibility period attached to his second-degree murder conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
