DOHA-<\/strong> Qatar Airways (QR)<\/a> has postponed the launch of its new triangular service linking Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) with Bogota El Dorado International Airport (BOG) and Caracas Simon Bolivar International Airport (CCS). The Qatari flag carrier had planned to begin the route later in July but will now start in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason for the postponement is unclear, though regional tensions have significantly affected Middle Eastern schedules throughout 2026. The delay leaves Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) as the only South American destination served from Doha this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways 6 Week Postponement Confirmed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways originally planned to begin flying from its Doha hub to El Dorado International Airport in the Colombian capital city of Bogota and Simon Bolivar International Airport in the Venezuelan capital city of Caracas on July 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest scheduling data shows the first departure has moved to September 2, a delay of six weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scheduling data from aviation analytics company Cirium shows that Qatar Airways will now operate only 35 rotations on the triangular South American route across the remainder of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By contrast, the carrier’s only existing South American route is served up to three times a day and is scheduled for 79 rotations in July alone, more than twice the total planned for Bogota and Caracas over the rest of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft assignment has not changed. Qatar Airways will operate the route with the Boeing 777-200LR. Fleet data from ch-aviation shows the carrier operates six of these long-range widebody twinjets, with an average age of 16.4 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Simple Flying<\/a>, the aircraft carry 42 business class seats and either 230 or 234 economy seats, depending on the individual configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Route Requires a Stop in Caracas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The triangular routing exists because of an operational limitation at Bogota rather than a commercial decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 777-200LR has sufficient range to fly nonstop from Bogota back to Doha. However, El Dorado International Airport sits at high altitude, and the resulting payload restrictions make a nonstop return sector impractical. The stopover in Caracas is therefore a necessity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This constraint also dictates the direction of travel. The inaugural rotation on September 2 will fly nonstop from Doha to Caracas, then make the short hop to Bogota, before returning nonstop to Doha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every rotation after that will operate the other way round, with the Bogota departure feeding into Caracas rather than directly into the long sector home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight Schedule and Block Times<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The regular rotation begins with Qatar Airways flight QR783 departing Doha at 7:30 AM. The aircraft arrives in Bogota at 4:05 PM local time, a block time of 16 hours and 35 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After 90 minutes on the ground, the Boeing 777-200LR<\/a> departs Bogota at 5:35 PM for the relatively short sector to Caracas, landing at 8:40 PM after a flight of two hours and five minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The layover in Caracas is slightly longer, at 2 hours. The third and final leg of QR783 departs at 10:40 PM local time and arrives back in Doha at 7:55 PM the following day, representing a block time of 14 hours and 15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers travelling from Doha to Caracas via Bogota can reckon with journeys of almost 21 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sao Paulo Remains the Sole South American Link<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Until September, Sao Paulo Guarulhos Governor Andre Franco Montoro International Airport in Brazil will remain the only South American destination on the Qatar Airways network from its Doha hub. The 79 rotations scheduled this month work out at either two or three return flights per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aircraft deployment on the Brazilian route is split between two widebody types. The Airbus A350-1000 handles 31 of the 79 rotations, equivalent to one service a day, while the Boeing 777-200LR looks after the remaining 48.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Block times differ by direction. Westbound flights from Doha to Sao Paulo take around 15 hours, while the faster eastbound legs typically take closer to 14 hours and 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
