PHUKET\u2013<\/strong> Two women were arrested at Phuket International Airport (HKT)<\/a> after authorities allegedly discovered more than 32 kilograms of cannabis flowers concealed inside their luggage during separate inspections in the airport’s international departures terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrests took place on July 9 as Thai customs officials intensified efforts to prevent the illegal export of controlled cannabis products through the country’s airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspects, a Filipino national and a Thai citizen, were detained in separate operations conducted by Phuket Airport Customs House in coordination with Sakhu Police Station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials alleged both women attempted to transport cannabis flowers out of Thailand without completing the required customs procedures, leading to multiple charges under Thai customs and narcotics laws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest cases highlight the continued focus on passenger baggage screening at Phuket’s busiest international gateway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passenger Arrests at Phuket Airport<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first arrest occurred at approximately 11 a.m. when customs officers inspected a black wheeled suitcase belonging to 18-year-old Filipino national Levannah Chelsea Guzman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to authorities, officers found 14 vacuum-sealed packages containing cannabis flowers hidden inside the luggage. The seized packages, including their wrapping, weighed a combined 14.5 kilograms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said Guzman acknowledged ownership of both the suitcase and its contents during questioning. She was subsequently charged with attempting to export goods before completing customs procedures, an offense under Thailand’s Customs Act BE 2560 (2017).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later that afternoon, at around 1 p.m., customs officers inspected another suspicious suitcase belonging to Thai national Penpitcha Phutsiang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The search uncovered 16 vacuum-sealed packages containing cannabis flowers with a combined weight of 17.6 kilograms. Authorities stated that the suspect also admitted the luggage and its contents belonged to her, the Straits Times<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She now faces charges similar to those brought against the Filipino passenger, along with additional offenses under Thailand’s Narcotics Code, the Protection and Promotion of Traditional Thai Medicine Wisdom Act, and regulations governing controlled cannabis issued by the Ministry of Public Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both women were transferred to Sakhu Police Station for further legal proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
