MADRID\u2013<\/strong> Low-cost carrier Wizz Air (W6)<\/a> will significantly expand its presence in Spain during the 2026\/27 winter season by opening its first-ever operational bases in the country and launching domestic services for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline will establish new bases at Madrid Airport (MAD)<\/a> and Valencia Airport (VLC), marking one of its biggest investments in the Spanish market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expansion introduces new domestic and international routes while increasing frequencies on several existing services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wizz Air said the move will strengthen connectivity across Spain, create around 150 jobs for pilots and cabin crew, and support its long-term growth strategy across Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wizz Air Spain Expansion Boosts Connectivity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wizz Air’s new base in Valencia will begin operations in November 2026 and become the airline’s first domestic hub in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carrier will launch daily flights to Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) and Bilbao Airport (BIO), alongside services to Asturias Airport (OVD) five times weekly, Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ) four times per week, and Santander Airport (SDR) twice weekly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Valencia base will also strengthen Wizz Air’s international network. Daily flights to Naples Airport (NAP) and three weekly services to Bra\u0219ov Airport (GHV) will be introduced, while flights to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP)<\/a> will increase from once to twice daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madrid will become the airline’s second Spanish base one day later. From the capital, Wizz Air will launch domestic flights to Asturias, Palma de Mallorca, and Santiago de Compostela, while also adding a new international connection to Pisa Airport (PSA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline will further increase frequencies from Madrid by operating twice-daily flights to London Luton Airport (LTN) and Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO). Services to Milan Malpensa will rise to three daily departures, providing travelers with greater schedule flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Route Network Launch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beyond its two new bases, Wizz Air is expanding services from several Spanish cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bilbao Airport will receive new direct flights to M\u00e1laga Airport (AGP), Santiago de Compostela, and Wroc\u0142aw Airport (WRO) in Poland. Meanwhile, Almer\u00eda Airport (LEI) will gain a new connection to Bucharest Henri Coand\u0103 Airport (OTP) beginning in late October 2026, Aero Time <\/a>reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline is also strengthening links between the United Kingdom and Spain. New routes from London Luton to M\u00e1laga, Asturias, and Granada Airport (GRX) will begin in October, operating four, three, and two times weekly, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These additions will expand Wizz Air’s UK-Spain network to 11 Spanish destinations, nearly one year after the airline launched its first routes between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Growth Strategy Expands Operations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The expansion represents a strategic shift for Wizz Air, which has traditionally focused on international routes from Spain. By entering the domestic market, the airline will compete more directly with established Spanish carriers while broadening its network across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the airline, both new bases will operate Airbus A321neo aircraft, supporting higher capacity and improved operating efficiency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The additional aircraft will allow Wizz Air to introduce 16 new routes, including 11 domestic and five international services, while expanding frequencies on several high-demand routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investment also reinforces Spain’s growing importance within Wizz Air’s European network. The carrier expects the new operations to generate approximately 150 direct aviation jobs and support future traffic growth as it continues expanding across the continent<\/p>\n\n\n\n
