The Boeing 777 will operate the route 1 to 2 times weekly during the third quarter of 2026. This rises to 3 to 4 weekly from 19 September 2026, then 5 weekly in the first half of December 2026, and reaches 6 weekly by March 2027.

The staged increase reflects a measured approach to the market. It allows the carrier to match seat supply with passenger demand while positioning larger aircraft on a route that previously relied on narrowbody equipment.

Flight Schedule for March 2027

The schedule below covers the period from 01 March 2027 to 27 March 2027, when the route reaches 6 weekly rotations split between the two 777 variants, as reported by Aeroroutes are as follows:

Outbound: QR410 Doha (DOH) 08:30 to Damascus (DAM) 11:30, operated by the Boeing 777-300ER (three weekly) and Boeing 777-200LR (three weekly).

Return: QR411 Damascus (DAM) 13:45 to Doha (DOH) 16:25, operated by the Boeing 777-200LR (three weekly) and Boeing 777-300ER (three weekly).

Photo: A7-BAX | Qatar Airways | Boeing 777-3DZ(ER) | ICN | A7-BAX |… | Flickr

Aircraft Replacing the Airbus A320

The Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 777-200LR together replace the Airbus A320 aircraft that Qatar Airways had previously scheduled on the route.

The switch to twin-aisle widebodies marks a clear capacity upgrade, offering more seats per departure and additional belly cargo space.

The move signals Qatar Airways’ growing commitment to the Doha to Damascus market. The guidance covers safety, security, local laws, and transport risks for British nationals.

Syria remains volatile after more than a decade of conflict. The Bashar al-Assad regime ended in December 2024, but multiple armed groups still control parts of the country, and fighting can occur without warning.

Terrorism and Kidnapping Threats Across Syria

Terrorist groups are very likely to attempt attacks in Syria. Daesh, formerly known as ISIL/ISIS, carries out regular attacks, particularly in northeast Syria and Damascus, though not limited to those areas. On 2 June 2025, an attack on the Greek Orthodox Church of Prophet Elias in Damascus killed at least 30 people.

Foreign nationals, including British nationals, and the places they visit may be treated as legitimate targets. High-risk locations include airports, border crossings, public squares, places of worship, hotels, restaurants, markets, residential compounds, and sports venues.

Attacks may also strike military sites, oil facilities, government buildings, embassies, police stations, and hospitals. Types of attacks include shootings, coordinated bombings, suicide bombs, vehicle bombs, rockets, and mortars.

The threat of kidnapping is very high throughout Syria. Al-Qaeda affiliated groups and Daesh routinely use kidnapping for financial or political gain. British officials, tourists, aid workers, journalists, students, and business travellers are all seen as targets.

The British government does not make substantive concessions to hostage takers, and the Terrorism Act (2000) makes payments to terrorists illegal.

Photo: Francesco Bandarin

Security Situation and Armed Conflict

The security situation stays dangerous and unpredictable. Some areas fall outside government control, including northeast Syria and Suwayda province in the south. Fighting may involve artillery and airstrikes and can lead to road closures, border crossing closures, and the temporary suspension of commercial flights. Curfews may be imposed at any time.

Political demonstrations may turn violent. Taking part in political activity carries risks including detention. Journalists and other foreigners may face mistreatment, detention, or the confiscation of phones and cameras by security forces.

Landmines and unexploded weapons remain from the conflict. Highly populated areas and major routes are largely clear, but rural and less populated areas still carry risk. Travellers should avoid stepping off roads and paved areas without an experienced guide, especially near former conflict lines, abandoned buildings, and open countryside.

Basic Services and Humanitarian Crisis

Syria faces a humanitarian crisis. Public infrastructure has been badly damaged, leaving shortages of water, sanitation, and health services. Electricity, internet, and cellular services are intermittent in many areas. Food supplies are extremely limited and often expensive, and basic goods and fuel can be hard to obtain.

The UK maintains sanctions on Syria, though it has removed sanctions on some sectors since the fall of the Assad regime. Instability has driven a rise in crime, including extortion at checkpoints, violent robbery, carjacking, and kidnapping for ransom.

Laws, Culture, and Local Rules

Syria is a multi-faith country with Sunni, Shia, Christian, Druze, and Alawite communities. Sectarian divisions persist, and outbreaks of sectarian violence are likely. Political parties are banned under the new authorities in Damascus, and there are restrictions on unlicensed political activity.

Travellers must carry copies of their passport photo page and visa for identification. Drug offences carry severe penalties, with life imprisonment for possession and the death penalty for trafficking. Financial transactions are restricted, cash withdrawals are limited, and electronic payment systems are rarely used. Some prices are listed in US dollars.

Photo: By Bernard Gagnon – Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=11576683

Transport and Natural Hazards

Road travel is very dangerous in many parts of the country due to poor road maintenance, the fragile security situation, and unexploded weapons. Driving standards are poor, the accident rate is high, and night driving is especially risky. Security checkpoints operate on major routes, and roads may close without warning. Drivers involved in accidents with pedestrians are likely to be held legally responsible.

Air travel options are limited. Fighting has at times suspended commercial flights and closed airports. Damascus airport (DAM) and Aleppo airport (ALP) currently operate some international flights, while other airports remain closed. Earthquakes are also a risk in Syria and can reach high magnitudes, damaging infrastructure and endangering lives.

Stay tuned with us.
