ARLINGTON-<\/strong> Boeing<\/a> has quietly updated the published range figures for its upcoming Boeing 777X family, significantly increasing the advertised capabilities of both the Boeing 777-8 and Boeing 777-9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revised specifications strengthen Boeing’s position in the growing ultra long haul market and bring the Boeing 777-8 closer to Airbus’ longest-range passenger aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The updated performance figures appear on Boeing’s official website and represent increases of more than 700 nautical miles for each variant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airlines continue to invest in nonstop long haul routes as passengers increasingly prefer direct international travel, making the improved range figures particularly significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boeing Updates Official 777X Range Specifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Boeing has revised the published range specifications for both members of the Boeing 777X family. The Boeing 777-8 is now listed with a maximum range of 9,500 nautical miles, while the larger Boeing 777-9 is now advertised with a range of 8,000 nautical miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The changes were first noticed by an observant Reddit user and later verified through archived versions of Boeing’s website on the Wayback Machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Archive records show that as recently as June 17, 2026, the Boeing 777-8 was listed with a range of 8,745 nautical miles, while the Boeing 777-9 carried an advertised range of 7,285 nautical miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revised specifications increase the Boeing 777-8’s published range by 755 nautical miles, representing an improvement of approximately 8.6%. The Boeing 777-9 gains 715 nautical miles, an increase of approximately 9.8% over its previously published figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boeing also updated the aircraft’s seating capacity. The Boeing 777-8 is now listed with a two-class capacity of 350 to 425 passengers, replacing the previously published figure of 395 seats. Likewise, the Boeing 777-9 is now advertised with a two-class capacity of 375 to 450 passengers, replacing the earlier 426-seat configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 777-200LR has an advertised range of 8,555 nautical miles. Based on Boeing’s updated specifications, the Boeing 777-8 extends that capability by nearly 1,000 nautical miles while accommodating more passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 777-8 measures 70.9 meters in length, compared with 63.7 meters for the Boeing 777-200LR. The additional fuselage length allows airlines to increase passenger capacity without sacrificing long range capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 777-9 also offers improvements over its predecessor. It measures 76.7 meters from nose to tail, compared with 73.9 meters for the Boeing 777-300ER. The updated range of 8,000 nautical miles also exceeds the Boeing 777-300ER’s advertised capability of 7,370 nautical miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Folding Wingtips Improve Efficiency and Compatibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Both generations of the Boeing 777 feature a ground wingspan of 64.8 meters, allowing compatibility with existing airport infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 777X introduces composite wings with folding wingtips that extend during flight, increasing the wingspan to 71.8 meters. The larger wing improves aerodynamic efficiency while enabling the aircraft to use airport gates designed for earlier Boeing 777 variants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The revised range figures also narrow the gap between the Boeing 777-8 and the Airbus A350-1000ULR, one of the longest-range commercial aircraft currently available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A350-1000ULR is advertised with a range of nearly 10,000 nautical miles and was selected by Qantas for its Project Sunrise program, which will operate nonstop flights from eastern Australia to destinations including London and the United States East Coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft completed its maiden test flight on June 2 from Toulouse Blagnac Airport (TLS) in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airbus has stated that the additional range was achieved primarily through the integration of an additional rear center fuel tank into the aircraft structure, increasing fuel capacity without introducing a new aircraft design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boeing has not disclosed whether similar engineering modifications, fuel system enhancements, weight reductions, or certification updates contributed to the revised range figures for the Boeing 777-8 and Boeing 777-9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
