The Boeing 787-9 can carry about 33,398 gallons (126,429 liters) of fuel, but fuel density changes with temperature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> During Perth&#8217;s hot summer conditions, warmer jet fuel occupies more volume while weighing less, meaning the aircraft cannot load as much fuel by mass despite filling the tanks to capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That difference may amount to roughly 1,500 kilograms of usable fuel. Those seats are often left vacant intentionally rather than reflecting weak ticket sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reducing passenger numbers lowers the aircraft&#8217;s overall weight, allowing additional fuel to be carried when weather or operational conditions require greater reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Every passenger, checked bag, and cargo container affects the aircraft&#8217;s total payload, making weight management one of the most important aspects of ultra-long-haul operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>External events can further complicate flight planning.
