LONDON-<\/strong> Air India (AI)<\/a> has appointed UK-based aircraft marketing and asset management specialist Skytech-AIC to sell six Airbus A319<\/a> aircraft as the Tata Group-owned airline continues its fleet modernization program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft, manufactured between 2003 and 2006, have been placed on the market with immediate availability as the carrier gradually retires older narrowbody jets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement reflects another step in Air India’s long-term transformation strategy, which has focused on replacing aging aircraft with newer Airbus A320neo-family jets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the airline did not disclose the value of the transaction or identify potential buyers, the sale marks another milestone in reshaping the carrier’s fleet from its primary hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL)<\/a>, Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India’s Fleet Renewal Continues<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The six Airbus A319 aircraft are being offered without their CFM56-5 engines, indicating that the engines could be retained for operational support, spare parts, or separate asset management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skytech-AIC said the aircraft are available for immediate sale, although it did not provide a timeline for completing the transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft have served Air India on domestic and short-haul international routes for years. However, they are now approaching two decades of service, making them less efficient than the airline’s incoming Airbus A320neo-family aircraft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newer generation offers lower fuel consumption, reduced emissions, and improved operating economics, aligning with Air India’s broader fleet renewal plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skytech-AIC’s Role in the Sale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first time Skytech-AIC has managed aircraft sales for Air India. The company previously handled the disposal of the airline’s Boeing 747-400 fleet, a process that concluded in 2025 after several aircraft found new operators or alternative uses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting on the latest assignment, Skytech-AIC Managing Director Julian Balaam said the company was pleased to once again support India’s flag carrier, the Economic Times<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that the appointment follows the successful completion of the Boeing 747-400 sales program and reflects the firm’s continuing relationship with Air India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The specialist aircraft marketing company has extensive experience in commercial aircraft sales, leasing, and asset management, particularly involving mature aircraft transitioning out of airline service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Older Airbus A319s are expected to leave the fleet gradually as deliveries of new Airbus A320neo-family aircraft continue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These aircraft provide greater fuel efficiency, improved passenger comfort, and lower maintenance costs, helping Air India build a more competitive narrowbody operation for domestic and regional markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
