SINGAPORE\u2014<\/strong> Qantas (QF)<\/a> has introduced two signature dishes from the historic Wing Seong Fatty\u2019s restaurant to its premium lounges at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), <\/a>preserving a culinary tradition that has connected generations of Qantas pilots and cabin crew with the city for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Australian flag carrier announced that the restaurant\u2019s famous crispy spring rolls and nuclear chicken will now be served in its First and Business lounges, respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative follows the closure of the century-old restaurant and reflects Qantas\u2019 effort to preserve an important part of its long-standing history in Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas Lounge Menu Gets Refresh<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wing Seong Fatty\u2019s was far more than a popular dining destination for Qantas crews. For decades, the restaurant welcomed pilots and cabin crew flying the historic Kangaroo Route through Singapore, becoming a familiar stop after long-haul journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its story dates back to World War II, when founder Au Yuen and his son, Au Chan Seng\u2014better known as “Fatty”\u2014risked their own safety to provide food for prisoners of war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their generosity earned the respect of Australian servicemen and Royal Australian Air Force pilots, creating a lasting connection that later extended to Qantas flight crews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the restaurant announced its closure after nearly 100 years of operation, Qantas partnered with the Au family to ensure part of its culinary legacy would continue inside its Singapore lounges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restaurant’s signature crispy spring rolls are now available in the First Lounge, while the well-known nuclear chicken has been added to the Business Lounge menu, allowing travelers to experience dishes that have become part of Qantas’ own history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crew Heritage Through Generations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nick McGlynn, Executive Vice President for Asia at Qantas<\/strong>, said Fatty\u2019s had become deeply connected with the airline’s operations in Singapore since the late 1940s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to McGlynn, the restaurant represented much more than a place to eat. It became a gathering point where crews returned repeatedly over generations, making it a memorable part of the journey through Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recipes were personally handed over to Qantas chefs by 75-year-old “Skinny,” the restaurant’s third-generation custodian, together with his brother Kelvin and other members of the Au family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dishes were officially presented during a special event celebrating the restaurant’s enduring relationship with the airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singapore Aviation Legacy Honored<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Qantas Chief Pilot Dick Tobiano described Fatty’s as an important part of the airline’s shared culture, saying it had served as a meeting place where pilots and cabin crew from different fleets and bases gathered after flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He thanked the Au family for their decades of friendship with Qantas and wished them a well-earned retirement as the restaurant closed its doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The addition of the two signature dishes also reflects Qantas’ continued investment in enhancing its premium lounge experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than simply expanding its food offerings, the airline has chosen to celebrate a relationship that has become part of its own aviation heritage, allowing customers to experience a tradition that has accompanied Qantas crews for generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
