CHICAGO\u2014<\/strong> American Airlines (AA) <\/a>will launch a new daily nonstop service between Chicago O\u2019Hare International Airport (ORD) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) from March 27, 2027, marking a major expansion of its transpacific network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The route will become the airline\u2019s 11th long-haul international destination from its Chicago hub and further strengthen connectivity between the United States and Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new service will operate in partnership with Japan Airlines (JL)<\/a>, allowing travelers to connect seamlessly beyond Tokyo to several major Asian destinations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the international expansion, American also confirmed new domestic flights from Chicago to Charlottesville, Virginia (CHO), and Ontario, California (ONT), reinforcing the carrier\u2019s growing presence at O\u2019Hare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines Chicago to Tokyo Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

American said the year-round route will be operated by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner<\/a>, featuring 30 Flagship Business seats and 21 Premium Economy seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft will provide premium long-haul options for both business and leisure travelers while expanding capacity on one of the world’s busiest transpacific travel markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline expects the new nonstop service to attract travelers visiting Japan for tourism, business, and cultural experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through its joint business agreement with Japan Airlines, passengers arriving at Narita will gain access to convenient onward connections across Asia, including Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei, and Ho Chi Minh City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligible AAdvantage members will also continue to earn miles and Loyalty Points when flying with Japan Airlines while enjoying reciprocal elite benefits such as lounge access, priority services, and additional baggage allowances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership is designed to improve connectivity while offering customers more flexibility across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Network Expansion Drives Hub Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Tokyo launch forms part of American’s broader strategy to strengthen its Chicago hub<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carrier will also introduce nonstop service to Charlottesville beginning in November 2026 and Ontario in December 2026, adding two more domestic destinations to an already extensive O’Hare network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With these additions, American continues expanding a hub that now serves more than 150 domestic destinations and has added over 30 new routes in recent years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline believes the latest expansion will improve connectivity for Midwest travelers while supporting tourism, business travel, and economic growth across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Tokyo service also comes as competition for transpacific traffic from Chicago intensifies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The route restores American’s nonstop presence between Chicago and Tokyo after several years and complements its partnership with Japan Airlines, which already provides service between the two cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O’Hare Investments Enhance Passenger Experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

American has continued investing heavily in its Chicago hub alongside network growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent improvements include a new Admiral’s Club lounge covering more than 10,000 square feet, expanded premium seating across flights, and the introduction of Flagship Suite products on selected international services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These investments are intended to enhance the passenger experience while reinforcing O’Hare’s role as one of the airline’s most important global gateways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tickets for the new Chicago\u2013Tokyo service will be available through American’s official booking channels ahead of the route’s March 2027 launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
