While he has praised the newspaper’s business reporting on some occasions, he has also criticized its coverage and editorials when they challenged his administration or policies.

In April, Trump criticized the newspaper’s editorial board following an opinion piece titled “Trump Declares Premature Victory in Iran.”

In a post published on Truth Social, he called the editorial board “one of the worst” and wrote that The Wall Street Journal was “always quick to criticize, but never to admit when they’re wrong.”

Trump’s criticism of The New York Times has been even more extensive. In September 2024, he filed a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against the newspaper, alleging that it had damaged his reputation.

The newspaper rejected the claims, stating that the lawsuit had “no merit” and “lacks any legitimate legal claims,” describing it as an attempt to discourage independent reporting.

Delta has not linked either partnership to politics. Instead, the airline has presented both agreements as part of its strategy to provide passengers with trusted news sources and high-quality onboard content.

Photo: Delta Air Lines

How Delta Sync Works

Delta Sync is the airline’s in-house digital entertainment ecosystem designed to create a more premium in-flight experience. That approach reportedly became a major point of disagreement during discussions with Starlink over next-generation satellite internet.

Reports indicated that Delta wanted to retain its curated Delta Sync Wi-Fi portal, while Starlink preferred a simplified one-click login process for passengers. The two companies were reportedly unable to reach an agreement, and the discussions ended without a deal.

Following the unsuccessful talks, Delta selected Amazon Project Kuiper to support its future satellite connectivity strategy. However, the service is not expected to be installed before at least mid-2027, as Amazon continues deploying thousands of additional low Earth orbit satellites needed for the network.

During that period, several competing US airlines are expected to move ahead with Starlink deployments.

United Airlines is expected to complete its fleet-wide rollout, while Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines continue expanding their own installations.

American Airlines has also announced plans to install Starlink on approximately 500 narrowbody Airbus aircraft.

Photo: Clément Alloing

Conclusion

Delta Air Lines continues to expand Delta Sync by adding premium journalism alongside its growing entertainment portfolio.

The addition of The Wall Street Journal complements the airline’s existing partnership with The New York Times, giving eligible passengers 24 hour access to trusted news articles and videos through Delta’s integrated onboard entertainment and Wi-Fi platform.

At the same time, Delta is continuing to develop its long-term connectivity strategy as it prepares for the future introduction of Amazon Project Kuiper satellite internet.

Stay tuned with us.
