DELHI-<\/strong> Air India (AI) <\/a>has upgraded one of its flagship international services by deploying its newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner<\/a> on flights between Mumbai (BOM) and London Heathrow (LHR)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft entered commercial service on July 1, bringing the airline\u2019s latest cabin product to one of its busiest long-haul routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new aircraft now operates flight AI131\/AI130 and introduces Premium Economy for the first time on the Mumbai-Heathrow route. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move forms part of Air India\u2019s wider fleet modernization strategy as it continues to enhance passenger experience across its international network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India New Premium Cabins on 787<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The newly delivered Boeing 787-9<\/a> is the first Dreamliner built specifically for Air India with its latest cabin design installed during production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike older aircraft that require retrofits, these line-fit jets arrive with the airline’s new interiors already in place, offering a consistent premium product from day one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft features a three-class configuration with 30 Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 238 Economy seats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The addition of Premium Economy provides travelers with an intermediate option between Business and Economy, expanding customer choice on one of Air India’s most important international routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business Class passengers receive private suites with direct aisle access, fully flat beds extending 79 inches, wireless charging, personal storage, and 17-inch 4K entertainment screens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Premium Economy offers a spacious 2-3-2 layout with a 38-inch seat pitch, adjustable leg rests, larger recline, and 13.3-inch 4K displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economy Class has also been upgraded with ergonomically designed seats, integrated personal device holders, and 11.6-inch 4K entertainment screens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across all cabins, passengers benefit from Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, AC power outlets, and the Thales AVANT Up inflight entertainment platform featuring more than 3,000 hours of content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

London Route Upgrade With New Cabins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While the new Boeing 787-9 now operates one of the airline’s daily Mumbai-Heathrow services, Air India’s second daily flight on the route continues to use its upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That aircraft retains First Class, allowing passengers to choose between different premium travel experiences depending on their preferred departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has also refreshed its onboard service with redesigned menus featuring Indian and international cuisine, upgraded tableware, premium bedding, new amenity kits, and mood lighting inspired by Indian wellness traditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, these enhancements aim to deliver a more refined and consistent long-haul experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deployment reflects Air India’s ongoing transformation program, which includes introducing newly delivered aircraft alongside retrofitted widebodies across major international markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI’s UK Network Growth Strategy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The United Kingdom remains one of Air India’s largest overseas markets, supported by strong business traffic, leisure demand, and a large Indian diaspora. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carrier currently operates 57 weekly nonstop flights linking Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Amritsar with London Heathrow, London Gatwick, and Birmingham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These services also strengthen connectivity beyond India by offering convenient onward connections to destinations across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia through Air India’s domestic and international hub network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As more new-generation aircraft enter service, the airline is expected to continue expanding its upgraded onboard product across additional long-haul routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
