FORT WORTH\u2014<\/strong> American Airlines (AA)<\/a> faces a yearly fee of $2.64 million<\/strong> to let its pilots and flight attendants bypass standard TSA security screening, as the Department of Homeland Security launches its new Crewmember Access Point program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charge applies to a workforce of more than 47,500 crew members<\/strong> and forms part of a wider shift away from the long-running Known Crewmember system. CMAP is already being tested at Washington National Airport (DCA), Dulles International Airport (IAD), and Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines TSA Crew Screening<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Homeland Security is replacing the Known Crewmember (KCM) program with its own system called Crewmember Access Point (CMAP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the new setup, airlines will hand over their Master Crew Lists or Master Personnel Lists to the TSA. The agency will then build its own database of crew members cleared to use the access point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a crew member reaches the CMAP access point, the TSA takes a photograph and cross-references it against the CMAP database and an existing federal photo record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A successful biometric match allows the crew member to skip screening. If the match fails, the crew member must use the TSA PreCheck lane instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program will remain voluntary. Crew members who choose not to take part will use the regular TSA screening lanes. According to PYOK<\/a>, crew members may also be directed to standard lanes under the agency’s unpredictable screening procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Each Airline Will Pay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The fee is set at $19 per crew member per year. American Airlines carries the largest bill at $2.64 million, reflecting its roughly 30,000 flight attendants<\/a> and 17,500 pilots. The other major carriers face the following annual costs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
