KUALA LUMPUR\u2013 <\/strong>Malaysia has extended the underwater search for Malaysia Airlines (MH) <\/a>Flight MH370 by another year, reaffirming its commitment to solving one of aviation’s greatest unsolved mysteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision allows deep-sea exploration company Ocean Infinity to continue searching for the missing Boeing 777, which disappeared while operating from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) <\/a>to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) in March 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The renewed agreement extends the search period until June 30, 2027, giving Ocean Infinity more time to complete exploration of a designated section of the southern Indian Ocean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaysian authorities said the move reflects their continued effort to provide answers and closure to the families of the 239 people who were on board the aircraft, The Independent <\/a>reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Continues MH370 Search<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia’s Transport Ministry confirmed that the extended agreement will take effect from July 1, 2026, and remain valid for 12 months. Ocean Infinity had resumed the search under a renewed contract signed last year after previously conducting unsuccessful operations between 2017 and 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest mission follows a “no find, no fee<\/strong>” arrangement valued at $70 million<\/strong>. Under the agreement, the company will only receive payment if the aircraft’s wreckage is successfully located within the approved search zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said the extension will allow Ocean Infinity to finish surveying approximately 7,428 square kilometers of the remaining target area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The additional time also accommodates the temporary redeployment of the company’s primary search vessel to fulfill other commercial commitments between November 2026 and April 2027 before returning to the MH370 mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the government’s decision demonstrates its unwavering commitment to uncovering the truth behind the disappearance and providing long-awaited closure for the victims’ families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight Mystery Remains Unsolved After Years<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished on March 8, 2014, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members. Roughly 40 minutes after departing Kuala Lumpur<\/a> for Beijing, the aircraft’s final radio transmission was made as it entered Vietnamese airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly afterward, the aircraft’s transponder stopped transmitting, preventing normal civilian radar tracking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Military radar later indicated that the Boeing 777<\/a> had reversed course, crossed back over northern Malaysia and Penang Island, and then flew toward the Andaman Sea before turning south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Satellite communication analysis later suggested the aircraft continued flying for nearly six more hours before exhausting its fuel supply somewhere over the southern Indian Ocean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite years of investigation, authorities have never determined the exact cause of the aircraft’s disappearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators previously stated they could not rule out the possibility that the aircraft had been intentionally diverted, although no definitive conclusion has been reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Debris Evidence From MH370<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Multiple international search operations have examined vast areas of the southern Indian Ocean since 2014, making it one of the largest and most expensive aviation search efforts in history. Despite these extensive missions, the aircraft’s main wreckage has never been located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 30 pieces of suspected aircraft debris have been recovered from the eastern coast of Africa and several islands across the Indian Ocean. However, investigators have confirmed only three wing fragments as originating from MH370.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recovered debris has played an important role in ocean drift analysis, helping investigators refine possible crash locations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even so, experts continue to face significant challenges because of the vast search area, complex underwater terrain, and limited evidence available more than a decade after the aircraft disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
