Rollout

The retrofitted Boeing 737-800 gave passengers access to ultra-fast, low-latency internet powered by Starlink’s network of low-earth-orbit satellites.

The launch marks the first phase of a large-scale modernization effort that will eventually reach hundreds of aircraft.

Tony Roach, Southwest’s chief customer and brand officer, said the airline will rapidly integrate Starlink into its fleet this year.

He described the technology as one that brings an at-home experience to the air, allowing customers to stay connected, be productive, and make the most of their time while flying at 35,000 feet.

Southwest operates a fleet of more than 800 Boeing 737s, and it aims to have Starlink installed on roughly 300 aircraft by the end of 2026.

That target signals a sharp acceleration after a slower initial integration phase that took around five months from the original announcement.

<img decoding="async"
