ISTANBUL\u2014<\/strong> Turkish Airlines (TK)<\/a> is preparing to reintroduce a premium economy cabin on its long-haul fleet as part of a broader strategy to expand capacity, improve passenger experience, and strengthen its position in the global aviation market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline is evaluating the rollout of the new cabin product on widebody aircraft from 2028 as it continues a major fleet growth program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move comes as the carrier accelerates its long-term expansion plans centered around Istanbul Airport (IST<\/a>), one of the world’s largest international hubs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkish Airlines aims to significantly increase its fleet size, widen its global network, and boost annual revenue while adapting to changing passenger preferences and evolving market conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkish Airlines Premium Economy Return Strategy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Turkish Airlines plans to bring back premium economy<\/a> more than a decade after retiring its previous Comfort Class product. Company leadership believes growing demand for additional comfort on long-haul flights creates a stronger business case for the cabin’s return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to airline executives, the proposed premium economy section could replace approximately 8% to 9% of current economy-class seating on widebody aircraft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internal research reportedly shows that many long-haul travelers are willing to pay more for greater legroom, enhanced comfort, and a more spacious onboard experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision reflects a wider industry trend as airlines worldwide continue to invest in premium travel products. Since the pandemic, demand for upgraded seating options has grown steadily, encouraging carriers to expand premium cabin offerings across international routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkish Airlines previously operated Comfort Class between 2010 and 2016. While passengers generally welcomed the product, inconsistent fleet deployment and varying onboard experiences limited its long-term success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleet Expansion Plans Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The premium economy project forms part of Turkish Airlines’ larger fleet modernization strategy. The airline remains committed to ambitious widebody growth targets despite fuel price fluctuations, geopolitical uncertainty, and operational challenges across parts of the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Management expects the airline’s network to reach around 350 destinations in the coming years. At the same time, Turkish Airlines continues to pursue significant revenue growth while expanding both passenger and cargo operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The carrier is also investing heavily in premium cabins. Its new Crystal Business Class suites are expected to debut on Airbus A350 aircraft<\/a> beginning in 2027. Industry observers expect the Airbus A350-1000 to become the first aircraft type to feature Turkish Airlines’ redesigned premium economy cabin. Deliveries of the new widebody aircraft are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline also holds a substantial order book for Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft<\/a>. Firm orders include both 787-9 and 787-10 variants, with additional purchase options that could further expand the fleet during the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
