CHRISTCHURCH\u2013<\/strong> Passengers traveling on an Air New Zealand (NZ)<\/a> flight from Christchurch Airport (CHC)<\/a> to Auckland Airport (AKL)<\/a> have been told they will not receive their checked baggage until at least the following day after their aircraft became stuck beside a taxiway before departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred on June 21 when the domestic flight was preparing to leave Christchurch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While taxiing, the aircraft\u2019s main landing gear moved onto a grassy area adjacent to the taxiway, forcing the airline to halt operations and safely disembark all passengers from the aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air New Zealand’s Aircraft Stuck Overnight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air New Zealand confirmed that the aircraft remains at the location where the incident occurred and cannot be moved immediately because specialized recovery equipment is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the airline, engineers and operational teams determined that a specialist towing system must be transported to Christchurch<\/a> before the aircraft can be safely returned to the gate. As a result, the aircraft is expected to remain in place overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nathan McGraw, Air New Zealand\u2019s Chief Safety and Risk Officer<\/strong>, said passengers exited the aircraft safely, and no injuries were reported. The airline emphasized that safety remains its primary concern while recovery efforts continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
