SYDNEY\u2013<\/strong> The Qantas Group<\/a> will become one of the first airline operators at Western Sydney International Airport (WSI)<\/a>, marking a significant milestone for Australia\u2019s aviation sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas (QF) and Jetstar (JQ) have confirmed new domestic passenger services from Western Sydney International Airport (WSI), with operations scheduled to begin as the airport opens to commercial traffic in late 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jetstar (JQ)<\/a> will launch the airport\u2019s first commercial passenger flight on October 25, 2026, connecting Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) with Gold Coast Airport (OOL). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The services are part of a five-year agreement between the Qantas Group and Western Sydney International Airport, supporting both passenger growth and freight expansion across the rapidly developing Western Sydney region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jetstar Launches Network Expansion Across Key Routes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jetstar will make aviation history by operating the inaugural commercial passenger departure from the new airport. Flight JQ362 will leave Western Sydney for the Gold Coast at 11 a.m. on October 25, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The low-cost carrier plans to operate up to 14 weekly flights to Melbourne, four weekly services to the Gold Coast, and three weekly flights to Brisbane<\/a>. All routes will be served using Airbus A320 aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline\u2019s expansion is expected to improve travel options for residents across Western Sydney while increasing competition on key domestic routes. The additional capacity will supplement existing services operating from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launch fares will start from AUD 59 one way to the Gold Coast, AUD 69 to Melbourne, and AUD 75 to Brisbane. Frequent flyers will also have access to Classic Flight Reward seats on the new routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas Expansion Plans Take Shape<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Qantas will commence passenger operations from Western Sydney International on March 28, 2027. The carrier will initially operate four weekly flights to Melbourne<\/a> and four weekly flights to Brisbane using QantasLink Embraer E190 aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has introduced promotional fares beginning at AUD 99 one way in economy class and AUD 299 in business class. All fares include baggage allowances and onboard meal service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Qantas Group Chief Executive Officer Vanessa Hudson<\/strong>, the new airport represents a major step forward for Australian aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline expects the facility to improve accessibility for millions of residents who currently travel to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport for domestic flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freight Growth Strategy Boosts Cargo Capacity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beyond passenger operations, Qantas Freight will begin services from Western Sydney International\u2019s 24-hour Cargo Precinct on July 27. The carrier expects more than 850 tonnes of freight to move through the facility every week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Western Sydney International Chief Executive Officer Simon Hickey said the airport\u2019s opening will provide greater flexibility for both business and leisure travelers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the integrated cargo precinct will strengthen air freight capacity while helping local businesses reach domestic and international markets more efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport is currently completing terminal fit-out work ahead of its opening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Australia\u2019s first major greenfield international airport developed in more than five decades, Western Sydney International is expected to play a central role in supporting future passenger demand, tourism growth, and cargo operations across the Sydney basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
