DOHA\u2014<\/strong> Qatar Airways (QR)<\/a> appears set to bring back its nonstop service between Doha (DOH) and Philadelphia (PHL), as signs point to its codeshare partner American Airlines (AA)<\/a> staying away from the Pennsylvania hub for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gulf carrier had earlier dropped the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) route to free up capacity for a second daily flight to New York JFK<\/a>. With American Airlines (AA) showing no plans to resume its own Doha service, Qatar Airways (QR) now looks ready to reclaim the market it left behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Qatar Airways Eyes a Philadelphia Comeback<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Doha to Philadelphia link had performed strongly for Qatar Airways before the airline handed the route over to American Airlines. Many travelers used the flight to connect onward to South Asian cities such as Lahore (LHE), Dhaka (DAC), Kathmandu (KTM), and Islamabad (ISB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That steady stream of transit traffic dried up once American Airlines suspended its Philadelphia to Doha flight on February 28. The suspension lined up with the start of the U.S. and Israeli military campaign against Iran, which disrupted travel demand across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, American Airlines has stayed out of the route. Current scheduling information indicates the carrier does not plan to return to the Middle East, including Tel Aviv (TLV), until January 2027 at the earliest. That long gap leaves a clear opening for Qatar Airways to step back in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
